From what I recall in the past, the law tries to threaten you with withholding evidence, tampering with evidence, and interfering with the process of law... but that is if you claim you are not going to tell them so that you may self-incriminate yourself. Which would be the stupidest thing you would tell someone that has power over your lifestyle.... Learn your lesson from history... You can't do time for saying and playing the broken record of... "Your honor, I do not recall".

*Note: Cooperate with your local DA today. Do not try to get away with anything, because you won't! Better yet, don't get caught!

I think this is the best advice. If this plan of action goes as it should, the rest won't have to be messed with. And from my limited experience with the justice system, the less contact you have in your life with Law Enforcement, generally the better.

whatever happened to "innocent until proven guilty"? this case must have had some other circumstances involved and i think that the encrypted HDD thing would totally fly. mitnick used it...
