Mounting a laptop in a vehicle

I found this on another site today:

http://www.mitchellfamily.com/laptopmount.html

It might be of interest for those of us (yes... me included) who balance laptops on the passenger seat, dashboard, or use duct tape to hold things down.

Looks good

This has been discussed before in this thread: http://forums.netstumbler.com/showthread.php?threadid=727

I see from your page, that you went through quite a few bit to track these down. In the original thread, it was suggested going direct to a city garage or radio shop to look for mounts. You took the long way, but ended up there. :-) Very nice setup though!

Cheers,
Thorn

Sorry... I can't take the credit for the idea - I just found the page. However you're absolutely right, and, clearly being sooo excited at finding something 'just right' I went ahead and started a new thread. Doh.

But on another note, in-car PC stuff is rare in the UK (where I am). Our emergency services don't tend to have stuff like this: in fact, the only time I've seen PCs in cars was a police force who had a product called the MDT by IBM spinoff Xyratec. This had the the PC in the boot and the display recessed into the sun visor.

Gee, I thought the UK was ahead of the US in the police PC in-car (and other) usage. I was watching a show on TechTV a few weeks back, and the mounted (horse) patrols in one city (Manchester? I forget...) were using wireless PCs. The PC was mounted in a saddle bag, with a mini display/keyboard combo in the Officer's hand. It showed him running a Wants and Warrants Check on a suspect in a back alley. The NYPD Mounted Unit doesn't have these. I reasoned that if the UK police had that for the mounted units they would certainly have them for the cars, but I guess not!

Cheers,
Thorn
