My ghettofantastic setup
I've been with my friends wardriving, but I finally got aroung to getting set up myself
Laptop:NEC Versa 2760MT (Pentium 166MMX, 96MB RAM, 2GB HD, Win2K) and some random bag I found WiFi:Motorola WN825G GPS:Garmin eTrex Legend, connected to serial port Power:Cheap 100 watt inverter for car use, 2-hour battery Vehicle: 1968 VW Bug, complete with 62 raging horsepower Cheap (the laptop, card, and working battery was $15, GPS was a gift) and gets the job done. The only problem is the card I got has no antenna connection. The GPS is the real great part. With WAAS enabled, it's accurate to +/- 10 feet, and it runs forever on a set of batteries. |

Dell CPi 266 with 128 megs ram, 10 gig hd, 2 batteries (about 6 hours of stumble time without power) Orinoco gold card, dual cantenna rig 400 watt power inverter, Meridian GPS (goes about 12 hours on 2 AA batteries but I run it off power plug. You will find if you peruse the listed kits of what people use that alot on here will not use a high end laptop since it really does not make that much of a difference for collecting.

No matter what hardware you use with windows, for detection: a WRT54G Kismet Drone will beat it hands down for less money.
http://www.renderlab.net/projects/wrt54g/openwrt.html Locating [roque] AP's is another matter. Even with all the triangulation in the world, 4 close up buildings with 10 stocks, 200 employees per stock will give you a major challance and lot's of walking & crawling. |
