Cheap cable from Compaq
RS-232 Serial Cable
Part Number 236251-B21 Need to connect your iPAQ Pocket PC to your cellular phone? Well now you can! With this RS-232 cable and your cellular phone's serial data cable, you can enable wireless data communication with the Internet, or your company's Intranet. This cable adds a fast serial COM port to your iPAQ Pocket PC for attaching cellular phones, modems, bar code scanners, GPS receivers, digital cameras, or other RS-232 serial devices. Cost $26.00 from Compaq. Better than all those adapters, gender changers, etc... I have used it for console access on a cisco router also. http://www.compaq.com/products/handh...nectivity.html |

Pardon my ignorance...
How does the RS232 cable differ from the serial hot synch cable? Both are 9 pin right ? The only thing I can think that might be different is whether the end is male or female, in which case a simple gender would fix right?
thanks |

The compaq sync cable plugs into your 9-pin serial port on your pc. The cable listed above looks like the 9 pin serial on your pc and functions the same as the 9-pin serial rs232 port on your pc.
Basically any device that you can plug into your pc can be plugged into your iPaq using the above cable (drivers permitting). It adds a serial port to your Ipaq. The 9 pin end of the garmin cable plugs directly into it, no gender benders and no null modem adapters...etc Hope that helps. |

i hate the way CPQ's std cables for the 38xx are power or serial only. i have a leadtek cable for the 38xx ipaq's which feeds serial & power into the ipaq simultaneously via the bottom connector. previously, i used a hacked 38xx/36xx adapter to feed the power in w/ the serial to the 38xx.
