My setup!

Hey guys!

Well I heard about wardriving a few months ago and I've finally decided to purchase some equipment and I'd be very greatful for your opinions on them.

Laptop: Dell Lattitude C610
Wifi:ORiNOCO Classic Gold Card
Antenna: 5.5dbi Omni Antenna
GPS: Holux GR-213

I'm going to setup dual boot on my laptop. Windows XP and probably a hardrive install of knoppix/knoppix STD.

Nobbo

Oh and a laptop bag :P

Yeh i wasn't expecting the antenna to be gd its just something to be getting on with. At least i didnt pay an extra £20 for the 7.7dbi antenna. Although i did consider it. -coughs-

But the main thing i was concerned about was the GPS and whether that was fully compatable with Netstumbler?

If it is NMEA 2.0 compliant, then yes.

If it's this Holux213 model then yes it should work.

Grrrr

Well so far not so good. Been almost a week since I ordered and there is no sign of my package. I've emailed the site and they've replied it should be there. So I've phoned the courier and they say they don't have any packages under my name.

One thing that has come out of the long wait for the equipment is that I've done more research into the specification of the antenna.

Quote:
5.5dbi Omnidirectional Wardriving Antenna (MC/Orinoco Connector)

Magnetic Mount! Put the antenna outside and on top of the vehicle where it can pick up more access points.

Each antenna comes with 5 feet of cable with MC-Card connector. Plug directly into your Orinoco/Lucent/Avaya/ Buffalo/Compaq/Dell/Enterasys wireless card!

Lightweight and PORTABLE! Perfect for Wardriving.

High Quality MC Connector from ISO 9001 facilities.

Which goes back to beakmyn's answer in Post #4, and the Cheap Antennae FAQ.

Yeh I was just confirming it.

Can't believe it hasn't come yet, the company say they'll ship me another one today if it isn't here by the end of the day.
