My Stumblin' setup

Notebook:

Gateway Solo 5150 (it was free, recovery from a theft)
20Gig hd
160mb RAM
Dell 1150 card
5.5db omni antenna

WinXP sp2
Frapson GPS gate (works great with Stumbler and Delorme)
Delorme 2003
Streets & Trips 2003 (just in case I need something else)

Vehicle:

2000 GMC Jimmy 4x4
Jotto Desk for the notebook
12v to 19v DC adaptor (avoids the need for an inverter)
Rand McNally serial GPS with PS2/USB adaptor to power it. (bought it years ago, still works great)

I keep my car in the middle bay in the garage in the background of the last picture. I ran an overhead cable for CATV, Cat5 and telephone out to the garage and installed an accesspoint in the garage so I don't have to bring the notebook in to upload my stumbling data into my database.

You can get them from Jottodesk. But I would recommend search Ebay for Jotto because there's a dude on there that sells them cheaper than the manufacturer. I think I ended up paying $143 for it after shipping from the dude on Ebay.

Marine Dealers

If you check at your local MArine Dealer or Walmart in Sporing goods, you can make a similar set up for about 40 bucks. Or go Hog wild and buy an old office chair and salvage it

Question

Hey, sorry for digging up a two month old post, but I have a quick question about your setup (haven't been able to get on the site for a while due to moving and lack of internet access...). Does the Jotto desk mounted in the Jimmy leave enough room for a manual shifter? I have an S-10 pickup with a manual transmission and was considering getting one, but the manual shifter issue has kept me from making the jump. Also, is there still room for a passenger to sit comfortably with the Jotto in place? How sturdy is it? (I also tend to do some off-road driving from time to time and I don't want to get smacked in the head by a laptop)

I can shift comfortably with where I mounted it in the vehicle. It's fairly sturdy for every day driving, but if you're off roading it, I would probably invest in their diagonal brace.

As for a passenger, if you mount it where I did, the passenger could have a problem sitting because of the angle of the swing arm. If you were to mount it directly onto the floor and not the 'hump' then it they'd probably be more comfortable. When installing it, you really need two people, on person to hold it down and the other to sit in the seat and see how it feels..
