The truth is often the best policy

Tell him it is an antenna for detecting and connecting to Wireless Public access hotspots.

(S)He will most likely go "Oh Ok cool"

I had a similar situation when GPS was new, they thought it was a Speed trap detector on my dashboard, but when I told them what is was that was their reaction.

I have all my stuff clumped together hanging on my windshield, no backlight unless i press the accessible button so i can see passed the screen protector... i haven't been pulled over yet, but nothing is sticking out of my vehicle or obstructing my view... so not much anyone can say... the only thing i could imagine would be that it would detect an AP while being asked if I knew why I got pulled over... (since we have all run into the stoplight-waiting-detecting-ap phenomenon

Lightbulb Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanie

I suggest wearing an Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanie while stumbling...

Get pulled over with that puppy on, and providing that it isnt loose and/or distracting you/blocking your vision, and they will let your potentially looney ass go right away...

I was pulling over years ago when drove a Metallic Red El Camino (read as neon 'pull me over' sign) and the cop saw a metal length of shiney chrome pieces in the floorboard... I showed it to him, it was a series of networking baluns hooked together, he said it looked like a pot pipe.... then he pointed to the white feathers on a length of white leather string hanging from my Rearview mirror, I told him it was just decorative thing, he said it looked like a roach clip...

he then looked at a short length of PVC pipe behind my seat, it was even in the commercial clear plastic bag I bought it in with a big label saying it was a replacment plumbing part.... he asked me what it was and I looked at him and said

'its a bong'

He swallowed his gum, almost fell over, laughed at me and let me go... guess it paid off to be a smartass... that time anyways...
