New to the game..

Hey there.. I was recently introduced to wardriving by a friend and was immediatly interested in it.. Ive always been interested in computers in general, never owned a lap top before, and seeing as I just got a car and dont have a job yet im on a budget so I cant really go buy a new one, but dont mind buying a used one but here is the problem - I dont have much experiance with laptops and the prices are majorly different from desktops, so I was hoping that I could get a few questions answered to help me out some =)

I guess my first question would be what specs should I probably try to aim for while keeping price in mind, what would be the reccomended for a budget?

What would the price probably be for those reccomended specs? whats a good price, bad price, what should I look for?

What ever else you can tell me on what I asked would be of much help =)

Thanks a lot for your time =)

Here is my setup for my car.

Ipaq 3765 Used $150-250
CF expansion sleeve $50-100
CF to pcmcia adapter $24
Radio card $40-60
pigtail $25-50
Antenna $25-60
GPS $30-150

Cost of being able to stumble from your fly hoopty PRICELESS

The GF was out the other day, and some guy saw my setup in the car, and asked her where she had to blow to start the car. Apparently he thought it was one of DUI detection kits you get after your 2nd DUI.

If all you're looking to do is run NetStumbler, you can pick up a cheap used laptop on eBay. As long as you'll be using a Classic Orinoco, you can run Win98 and keep the system requirements really low.

If you want a new laptop, most retail brands start off at about $1000 for an entry level Celeron machine, and can be as low as $600 if you can put up with rebates.
