network detection at speed

mmmmm, someone said that they loose the ability to chat over wlan at 50mph - well I routinely run a wlan sniffer in the car when driving on motorways at 70+ MPH and I pick up the same 50 or 60 ap's that are within range. Admittedly I'm using a amplified receive only antenna with kismet / WSA but that shouldnt make much difference.

regards,

Lightbulb hmm, back to the Strainer Dish thing

Exactly what rules apply to dishes for specific frequencies?

I am wondering what diameters of collapsable strainer woudl be needed for a proper 2.4 dish... or would the size of the dish part be less an issue than the size/etc of the feeder part?

I am thinking of modifying one of these with a Servo and some mods so it is self opening and such. Have the ability to change its focus ratio or close it all together... then give it rotation up and down and, say be modified X10 Ninja pan/tilt... could be interesting...

jeffrowe,
Get the ARRL antenna book. The feed horn size is critical, I think, but the dish size does make some difference.

Now we had been told that WLAN connections will work
on moving cars at up to 40-50mph but loose the signal
after that. Well It got me thinking that maybe they were
correct IF the AP was fixed at a certain location, but what
would happen if both the AP and the clients were moving
at 40-60mph or faster.....

I guess as long the AP's were the same distance from each other, you were going slower than the speed of light and in a vacuum it wouldn't matter how fast you were going..

Perhaps we are talking about AP_1 at the event horizon and AP_2 approaching the singularity.

at any given time the distance from point a to point b is not different from point b to point a. it's the same distance reguardless of how many dimensions you're measuring in.

Using this:
AP_1 at the event horizon and AP_2 approaching the singularity

if AP_1 were at location X, and AP_2 were at location Z, it is possible that AP_1 would be reporting back a distance of U,
while AP_2 would be reporting back a distance of V, where U!=V.

I haven't tried this myself... yet, so take it for face value.

distance is absolute no matter how you measure it.

You keep saying that, so I am guessing you are being serious. I on the otherhand am not.
