Smallest working NS setup :-)
Hey there,
I just un-buried a Libretto 110 I had laying around, but didn't use, setup NS, with an ORiNOCO gold, and the range extender antenna. The 110 is really cool, as I can set it up to close the screen but keep the computer on, so I get some 5-6 hours of stumbling with it. NS works happily away, and I can fit the closed Libretto in the inside pocket of a couple of jackets I have, so you wouldn't even know it's there. I stumbled several APs in a large supermarket-mall-hughe-place-with-everything with this setup. They have WEP enabled only on SOME of them (duh!). Pictures & other stuff as soon as I get my web site up. Mother |

I have my Ipaq all set up with the extra battery, Orinoco card (or Cisco 350). Once mini-NS comes out, I'm gonna be carrying this thing every time I'm in an office!
I'm just constantly amazed that people aren't locking things down. There are at least 3 computer consulting companies in my area that are wide open! |

That's almost cheating
Hi Jerry,
I have my iPAQ ready too :-) waiting avidly for Mini-NS. For now, there is a packet sniffer called CENiffer, freeware apart from a once-a-minute nag screen, otherwise some $995 (ouch!). What spare battery are you using? I was thinking about cooking one up myself, but I may save the hassle if there's one out there and not too expensive. Thanks, Mother |

Spare battery - well, not really a spare, just the one that's built into the expansion pack. It does double the battery life. When running with the Cisco site survey tools running, I'm good for 4 hours or so. I also have a USB/Ipaq cable that charges and syncs ....but it doesn't sync if the expansion unit is plugged in. Syncing is no big deal....charging the Ipaq is.
I might get an 8" or so omni antenna to and then put the Ipaq and the antenna in my pocket. |

Yo Mother...
same setup here... and the cool thing, it fits in your center console when you accidentally get pulled over for driving like a moron.
If you get the docking station, it rocks. I have about a million (ok, a hundred or so) locs to upload to the database, but I am way too busy playing. My Libretto is my best friend. Well, second to my Aibo. Also fits on my jetski (my Aibo too) and my bike, and my motorcycle(My Aibo does not like my MC). Yeah, believe it or not, I have actually found wireless networks on the lake. Imagine my friends shock when I was showing him a website when we were taking a break. Does that make me obsessive? Axe |

OAS = Obsessive Aibo Syndrome :-))
Hey Shawn,
Well, I guess we're all obsessive about something - I tend to go everywhere with at least some piece of computing equipment and a stack of batteries - I now have to try the iPAQ rugged case, which supposedly makes it IP54, enough to go to the beach with it... Anyways, the Libretto is great, I believe that due to popular demand Toshiba is making a new one, possibly due to the amount of Vaio sales they saw - it's a shame they didn't continue the saga. Happy stumbling! Mother |

That was a newbie question
Sorry,
I have now read thru several of the forums. Sorry for the newbie question. Guess I am just not ready to install linux my my ipaq yet. I was hoping that someone had a good stumbler for that platform, since it is the easiest thing one could carry for stumbling around. I am just getting started here and am learning by the minute. Thanks for the help so far |
