I use a magnet mount 5DB antenna from:
http://www.fab-corp.com/ The GPS is a Garmin eTrex Vista that sits on the dashboard. Serial to USB converter to the Toshiba Laptop with 2 batteries and a DC-DC converter plugged into the Cig.Lighter. Obviously a Lucent card & netstumbler and usually a dos prompt and languard net scanner running. Nothing is mounted cuz there's usually allot of car swapping. There are allot more elaborate setups. But this is simple enough. ![]() What you lookin to do? |

I don't think it'd be too hard...
to use a few self-tapping sheetmetal screws to mount the base of the stand. If your floorboard is thin, then I'd get a plate under the floorboard and screw or bolt into that.
I'd caulk the holes and bolts/screws just to make it last longer and to keep the water out. Tron Of Borg |

Thorn: Vehicle type, did you buy/build your mount, the features therein, where it's attached, etc, etc.
I have a Jeep and am probably going to have to build one, just wanted to get ideas before I make myself nuts. Essentially, this is for solo wardriving in which I want the laptop mounted for easy access/viewing while in the driver's seat. - Joe |

I've done it in sedans before (mainly Ford Crown Vics, they have the room), using this type of equipment:
http://www.galls.com/shop/viewProductDetail.jsp?item=VE099 It needs a base that will mount on the floor/transmission hump, so look at: http://www.galls.com/shop/viewProductDetail.jsp?item=VE115 I don't see why you can't get a local welder to make you a similar rack, or you could buy one. Check Yellow Pages for the radio shops in your area that deal with the local FDs & PDs, or the city highway garage. These things get replaced when the cars & trucks get changed to the new year models. A used mount might be had for free, or very cheap. My current rig is in a backpack. Can't see the screen while driving, but very stealthy. (One of these days I'll get the page posted.) I've been thinking of going to back to a mount like the above for my current vehicle. They are convienient. Cheers, Thorn |

Laptop Mount
I've been strongly considering using a lower-end port replicator for my Compaq Armada. The only problem is finding a good place to put it, since most of the time it hangs out on top of my laptop bag in the passenger seat.
So far I haven't attracted any attention that I'm aware of and I've got 80% of my hometown done. Now, if I'd only get off my lazy ass and finish it... (work, school, and some web development has impeded my stumbling recently) -A.G.- http://www.agentgreen.org/projects/netstumbler |

Other Vehicle Mounts
I have been scouring the net for a similar vehicle mount for my laptop. From all I can gather, I haven't seen very many mounts that fit foreign cards. I am most interested in "no-drilling" because one day I want to sell my car. The idea of holes in the floorboard makes me worry.
I some ideas on places to check: (these are not endorsements, i've never purchased from any of these companies, so be ware as usual) http://www.galls.com http://www.ram-mount.com http://www.yourmobiledesk.com Search for used units at auction. I found 3 that were on Yahoo auctions and eBay had 4. All were pulls from PSV's (Public Service Vehicles), most mounted to the floor via screws, and included no instructions. Good words to search for: Gambler Johnson, Jotto Desk, Road Ranger, Ram Mount, laptop mount. |

another console/mount source
kinda expensive, but good stuff and i've personally used it before. http://www.havis-shields.com makes consoles with attachments for laptops and etc. You have to buy through a dealer though, this is the manufacturer's website. I got my stuff through Pittsburgh Mobile Radio.
