Edmonton...
I'm in Edmonton.
I've reached over 500 AP's in the city and immediate surrounding area. www.renderlab.net/projects/wardrive/ I'm curious about Calgary. Any data? |

Yes quite a bit.
I've got almost the same rig as you too. So far just have driven downtown/some of the south as I haven't had much time up to 350 access points, of which around 60% unprotected. I have yet to drive some of the tech sections of Calgary |

whoa, after not seeing any responses to this thread, I've checked back, and was pleasantly surprised.
I've found ~118 in Calgary, and ~170 in Edmonton. Nice setup Renderman. I drive back and forth from Calgary/Edmonton twice a week, I've never tried wardriving the full route, as I don't have an external antenna, but I'm amazed at the number of networks you've found. I've wanted to scope RedDeer for sometime now, but time... time... Hmmm, not next week, but the week after would be good for RedDeer (mmmmmmm, university/college = wireless networks....) |

(In fact, here's a project I'd love to do).
By looking at the various signal strengthes, for only non-WEP, or open AP's, I'd love to build an actual "coverage" map, instead of pin-points for the AP's, approximated network radius, and then produce an overlapping coverage map of Alberta... Based on mulitple samples from 1 AP, taken from multiple locations, it should be possible to triangulate it's center, and then approximate it's overall radius, instead of the simple "found AP @ GPS coord" mapping we have now... |

Central Alberta WD
Chris from the Forum is co-ordinating a mass wardrive of the Virginia are on the 31'st. I'd be fun to have our own on the same day.
I'll email you to workout details. This is also an open invitation to anyone in the Alberta area who wants to join in. Just mail me at render [at] renderlab [dot] net and I can include you. Render Last edited by renderman : 04-19-2004 at 11:13 AM. |
