COS Planning D20 Schools WLAN
I live in Colorado Springs. I am currently planning the WLAN that is going in every Academy District 20 School (5 high schools, 4 middle schools and 13 elementary schools) to allow a mobile lab of computers to be used in every classroom, cafeteria, auditorium, gym; to allow roving teachers to have access to their grade books, attendance records, presentations and other online resources; in high school to allow student access with laptops, pocket pcs and tablets.
Netstumbling is fun here in the springs with the downtown and CU areas being most populated with APs. Also, there is a freenetworks project underway in the front range called milehighwireless.net NTEC is offering CWNE classes in both Denver and Colorado Springs Area. Chipotle ... the Starbucks that never was?
I will take note of it. Chipotle serves up pretty tasty, huge burritos with pretty healthy ingredients (if you skip the sour cream). At this rate, they are starting to catch up with Starbuck's (and they don't even know it)
There is also a milehighwireless.net access point near the back side of park meadows mall "opennap" from most of countyline road between yosimite and quebec (as well as red lobster and Krispy Kreme's Parking lots - with a small 2 db omni). I will bring my stublin' laptop next time I take a trip up to Lakewood to see my folks. Konrad |

Downtown Denver/LODO
I just out together my new ipaq 3870, dual expansion sleeve, and compaq WL110 and found over 20 AP's in a two block radius in LODO! 3/4 had no WEP enabled!
Down 14th and Wazee Chipolte has 4 AP's wide open. I then took my ipaq on a drive down 26 to 36 towards boulder and found about 20 more, including one clearly labled "Westin" (for the Westin hotel off 36). No GPS yet though sorryAny one is interested can contact me at twocarbon@hotmail.com for the files or whatever. As soon as I get my extra laptop back I am going to start trying to crack the WEP keys of the 4 AP's I can see from inside my loft. |

actually i just got back to colorado springs myself, i've been bouncing between here and santa clara. from the look of the national map nobody has done i-25 south of colorado springs and i was thinking about doing it today, making a run down some main streets of raton, trinidad, walsenburg and pueblo. i just got me a mag-mount 5dbi from fab-corp and it rooooocks, so i'm going to have to go make use of it. =) fyi: i'm using the wigle database as a reference what hasn't been stumbled yet. i need to automate the download/import process... yeah. so perhaps we can meet up once you get back here. catch me on AIM as lull if you're going to be around.

Anybody in Colorado Springs?
Although currently based in Scottsdale, I work where I sit and my wife and I spend a lot of time in the Springs, particularly when the Arizona weather gets lousy in the summer. (I keep wondering why I don't already live there.) We'll be driving up mid-August for about ten days, stumbling all the way. I hope to have GPS by then--not that I expect to see a lot of APs going through the Rockies...
If anybody's in the Springs, it would be cool to meet for breakfast on a Saturday--or lunch if you guys don't do breakfast--and BS about microwaves, 802.11b, etc. I'll put a Pringles can in the middle of the restaurant table so you'll know who we are, although unlike everybody else here, I actually look a lot like my avatar. What say? --73-- --Novilio |

Denver Colorado & area.
We are here & there is so much stumblibng to do.
I have been letting my laptop stumble whenever & drive around town for my job & have found 165 WAP's so far in the area. I figure I've found about 10-15% of what's out here. So far I'm the first I know to get the whole rig up & running, but I have 3 other buddies that have laptops & cards, and are getting their GPS's. We hope to use the merge function in stumbler to put all our results into one big file & make a nice map out of it. Soon I will document & post my setup & the results of my Scanning on the web. Hmm, is it safe/legal to post locations of WAP's I've found? Would I be liable if someone used that info to crack into a network? I better think about that before I go posting that info I guess. |

My Rig:
IBM Thinkpad T20 PIII 700MHz 258MB RAM Windows XP Linksys WPC11 v.3.0 I've been reading the forum for about the last two hours and have found some useful information, but not sure where to start. I wasn't sure if I would get any AP's by driving around in my truck without an antenna? The first 20mins I was driving around with the setting in NS set to "use any suitable device". I have seen where some are using either NDIS or Prism. Not sure what that is yet, but am doing some reading, so I hope to figure it out soon. Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I don't have an AP of my own yet. I don't have the cash at this point ... but I hope I will sooner or later! Before another better standard comes mainstream! LOL

your card is a prismII chipset
read the readme that came with netstumbler. best card is ORiNOCO as it works with netstumbler and has an external antenna jack. FAB-CORP is a good place to go for antennas and cables and pigtails. www.pricewatch.com for any orinoco type cards (avaya as well) and as always...read the threads...hardware threads and FAQs NS will show you if it is using that card or not. i bet it is not. you could use the client software that linksys includes with your drivers...it will scan for APs, but that is just if you wanna try to connect to those APs Last edited by hratch : 08-22-2002 at 07:22 PM. |
