The real goodies should be on the Chicago Brown/Purple elevated loop tracks.

Chicago Red Line

I just did a check along Michigan ave from about Adams to the Wrigley Building, across the courtyard and back. A total of 85 networks including multiple small and large businesses, hotels. I setup an audible notification for when data was recieved. Michigan avenue is practically flooded. The wrigley building courtyard got so much traffic that i had to take the headphones out :-D

Chicago is flooded with networks.. I was there a couple of days ago (stayed in the Westin River North) and from within the hotel I could locate 8 network.. some of them seem to have very strong signal as well..

I've got access to the roof of a downtown Chicago office building (31st floor I guess you could call it). I'm going to check it out this week.

Another stumbler on the BNSF Chicago?

I had a weird experience this morning on the way to work.
I ride the BNSF Aurora - Chicago express train (Metra), and I had my laptop stumbling. While on the 40 minute ride downtown, I saw a "Peer" show up 6 times on the trip, always with the SSID "CHI".

It's MAC address was altered each time too.

Could this be another stumbler possibly on the same train? (9 car train, each car about 100 feet long)
Perhaps they we're changing the MAC address while they scanned? Kinda strange. The mac address did not show up under vendor.

Wardriving this weekend

I just got a Lucent card and car antenna, and am getting a Garmin GPS III+ tomorrow. I'll probably be attempting to map the entire downtown area this weekend. I'll post back with info when done.

Chicago and Near North

Sounds like a plan.

I have my 'dstumbler' rig still set up and ready to roll, I had been testing using both netstumbler and dstumbler with two people walking the same route at the same time, using the same make and model of card, and some networks would be detected by one platform and not by the other.

Anybody with a good directional antenna rig interested in participating?

Email sent.

Wardriving this weekend

I was curious if everyone wanted to get together and wardrive in a group, or something to that effect. Ideas? Comments?
