I'm just about to install the 5 db ant on the car tomorrow; the laptop, gps and 12v power adapters are ready. Then we're gonna map all of louisville we can get to (UofL, Downtown, and the industrial parks). The airport will probably be too dificult, considering security precautions. I'll get the data into a map, at some point.

Over 100 hits in 3 hours of driving in Louisville
I hit Main, Market, and Broadway downtown, Eastern Parkway, Bardstown Road, the Watterson from 3rd Street to I64, Hourstbourne Road from I64 into Hourstbourne Green, and Fern Valley road out to Southside. I got over 100 hits, VERY few had any WEP enabled, many let you associate with no security, and the majority were set to default settings (A guess based on the SSIDs of Linksys, Default, and Airport). I saw everything from peoples' home setups to Humana and Norton hospitals downtown. I'll have the GPS setup next time, and will publish a Mappoint 2002 map.

Not yet :-)
Not mapped yet. I'm just now getting my laptops setup for that. Antennas and pigtails should be in by Tuesday. Garmin eTech Legend GPS on Wed. Power inverter is installed and antenna mounts(going to test several antennas to compare). Been studying Airopeek, Ethereal and CommView. Anyway should be ready to rock by next weekend.
Would like to compare rig results over the same area route sometime if your willing. ;-) OneGuy |

Ran another run, more APs each week
I did downtown louisville and barsdtown road again, and got more hits than I did last time on a larger area (including what I just ran this time), plus Hurstbourne and others! APs are popping up like mad, less than 25% have WEP, and MANY allow complete DHCP/non-MAC specified association *sigh* The only ones with WEP seem to be home users or the VERY slight minority of Health companies (Louisville is health-care heavy).

Greetings from glorious Lexington! I do make frequent trips to Louisville...
![]() I could come equipped with a snail-slow Pentium 150 laptop or a slightly-less-slow k6 266 laptop, my iPAQ 3765 and my Cisco Aironet 350 PCMCIA card... Hopefully the forthcoming PocketPC version will support my card. ![]() Also, drive over to Lexington and scan UK's campus. It's funny. They tell the students to buy the cards with 128-bit WEP support, then go and DON'T DEPLOY ANY WEP AT ALL! Go figure! ![]() Everen |

Map of Louisville
Well, I threw some (maybe 50%) of the data I've collected so far into mappoint; take a look:
http://www.seanmcpherson.com/wireless/ Then just browse down to Louisville. If you have netstumbler files you want mappointed, lemme know. I have stumbverter and mappoint 2002, and can generate the maps. All I ask is permission to stick the same maps on my site *grin* |

PING! Sean dude
Hey Sean, Do you think there is interest to get together a meet of some sort of area wireless stumblers somewhere in Louisville or Jeff? Kinda like to swap wardriving stories, compare notes (rigs) and such. Maybe do a lunch thing on a weekend.
Some others are doing this in other areas. Sounded kinda interesting. Hell, anyone interested that is in the Louisville and/or surrounding areas, speak up! Shoot me an email and I'll add you to a mailing list to get this thing going. OneGuy isbmann@hotmail.com |

Meets and Such
First off, Tad, I live down towards 3rd and New Cut, and I haven't mapped further south or west much, so I don't know about Valley Station yet.
As far as meets about driving and yapping about it, I'm game :-) I work downtown in Louisville, so hopping over the river some evening isn't a big deal. |

Greets from Hikes Point
Greeting from another Louisville Netstumbler. I'm just getting started, but have found some nice access points to and from work. All I need now is a GPS unit to finish my setup, but that will have to wait until the budget recovers from getting a new system for home.
I wouldn't mind getting together with y'all. I work near the Oxmoor Center but can meet anywhere. Gonarat |
