go to your network connections, then your wireless connection, then go to advance then uncheck let windows manage my wireless connection. then hit ok. then go back and hit refresh sometimes this helps. but remember when you want to connect to networks to turn this back on.. but if you want to do it right get you an orinoco card and an external ant. and you will be set up, i could only imaging how many open access points there are in N.O. i just got back from houston and just between beaumont and in houston i picked up about 340 access points.

the best thing to do would be to read the forums, probably the best place for information, if you want to try linux without having to install it on your laptop or desktop try knoppix STD, its a bootable linux distro. download it burn it to cd pop it in and it boots to linux. http://www.knoppix-std.org/ ,
check out kismet, linux wireless tool, http://www.kismetwireless.net/ , good info Michagan wireless http://www.michiganwireless.org/ wired and wireless tools, not free but you can demo them http://www.wildpackets.com/, portlan wireless loaded with lots of usefull info http://sdots.com/wireless/ that should be enough to get you started |

I've been wardriving on the Northshore (Covington/Mandeville area, mostly) with a Toshiba e740 and TomTom GPS. I'm about to start using a Orinoco Silver card with an external antenna with an Axim X5 (no GPS for it yet, though).

edcookdotorg Cool I'll be in Mandeville the end of May, I have an Axim X3i so I'm left out of the pocket PC Stumbling business, sure would be nice if it worked, be we can't get everything.
