Sheessh! Where *IS* Montana?

Joking aside...I used to live in Sheridan Wyoming. Talk about no early adopters there!

As to this wardriving stuff....you know, I was thinking about this the other day.

Wardriving in lets say, Chicago vs Sheridan WY, or Butte Montana, or Somewhere else, ND.

Seems to me that for the wireless geeks out there, that wardriving results and sharing of info would be a lot more useful proportionatly in these remote areas than it would be for megatropolises.

Just a though that goes with yours.

PS, I live in Florida along the 'Space Coast"

I live on the Gulf Coast of Florida, but my wife is originally from Shepherd, Montana. Man! Talk about a small place. I'm not sure they had enough electricity in town when I was there to run an AP.

I had no idea that livestock and crops were 802.11b capable!

I’m not stumbling alone in Montana. I’m in Missoula and have been able to locate a variety of AP’s.

3dafx are you still stumbling?

Anyone else stumbling in the wide open spaces of Montana?

I'm stumbling in the next closest bastion of no technology -- Idaho. Actually I was very surprised when I first started. Since stumbling for a month or so, and now with a GPS, I've found about 150 AP's, with 70% having WEP turned off. The difference between, Montana, Idaho, and NYC and Chicago. We can't stand out our balconey (read farm) and pickup AP's with a bazooka, or some other form of antenna. We HAVE to drive to get to anywhere!

You might as well put a magmount on a low-flying crop duster or something.

I know the driving pain, though...I can imagine it feels like western MA sometimes.

It's like a low flying crop duster, but different.
It’s more like a subaru with a 5dBi gain antenna.

Can anyone answer me this?
As I'm traveling in a fairly remote area I pick up weak signals from access points. By remote I mean you see a house now and then but that's it.

Aliens or 802.11b accessible livestock?

heh.. thats just too funny, its in the EU. Might be here too ;-)

I think its more the aliens tho, u know they need 802.11b to transmitt thoes crop circle designs to the mothership ;-)

Why do you think a lot of them are disc or ciguar shaped? a large cantenna/dish for 802.11b amplification.

Anyway, I'm looking for people in the Great Falls area that would be interested in some stumbling possibly next Friday night. March 11th

Of course there would be a massive party with lots of hard liquor, bad country music, and dumpster tippin' afterwards to celebrate our findings.

Any takers?
If there be boobies and guns, I bet you could tempt Audit and/or G8t

Sounds like the parties around here:

Joe had made his mark in the world and purchased a piece of land in the backwoods of Vermont. After six months of solitude, one day he heard a knock at the door.

He hurried to answer it and was greeted by an large, bearded, mountain man. "I'm Amos, your neighbor from over t' hill. You being new, I thought I'd invite you to a party at my cabin Friday night."

Thinking he'd have enough solitude, Joe answered, "Sure I'd be happy to come. What time does it start?"

Amos said, "About seven thirty". As he started to leave, Amose turned back and said, "I should let you know, sometimes there's a fair amount of drinkin' at these things."

Joe replied "No problem, I can drink with the best of them."

Amos again turned to leave and then turned back, "Sometimes there's a fight 'r two."

Joe said, "I'll just have to be careful, but I can hold my own in a fight."

Amos, nodded and started off again. Then he stopped and looking over his shoulder said, "One last thing, pretty wild sex happens from time to time, too".

Joe smiled, "Hell, it wouldn't be much of a party without that would it?".

As Amos started once more to leave, Joel had a thought. What should I wear?" he called?

Amos stopped and thought for a moment. "Wear whatever you want." he said, "It'll just be the two of us".

Occasionaly I drive around and play with gps and netsumbler. Mostly lurk around here. The guy up the street (which i guess could be you) has wardriving stickers on his bright blue sti. If it is you, you should get those wires that are hanging from the front right fixed last wire i had hanging from my friends previous sti it was a diffrential temp sensor that had broken.
