Pretty good pickins on the East side.

One resort hotel (how we say, "casino,") company uses 4 different 802.11 circuits to link five separate hotels - some as far as 6 miles apart - into their network.

Even the Home systems have the WEP on, but, bear in mind that even paranoids have enemies...

Planning on putting my 15 db HyperTechLink up on my WAP (my condo overlooks Da Strip) for Visiting Stumblers after the first of the year.

Unless you got at least 1800, there's more fun to be had The ratio of WEP that our team got was close to about 25% encrypted. Then again, most of these were businesses... and many of them in general had default SSIDs.

There were some pretty interesting setups goin on out there though. Several stzlsvwnw APs, CCSD_0523_WEPx, and a couple cool SSIDs like We_hack_Netstumbler_or_Kismet or *TH1$I$the@gsEmPire!0B1knB.

There has been rumor that all data from the wardrive will be made available within a week or so. I think the tropicana APs were not necessarily one place, but more of a location on the street (ie we found tropicanatopacific at, guess where, the corner of tropica and pacific) Not sure if there was a significance of them being named similarly other than the same wireless people hired to set them up though...

when you plot those aps out with gpsmap in linux, their range splatters nearly all of the city. i was well south of the city and still getting packets from at least one of them.

Yeah, I'll have to post my map. It's clear that some of the tropicana links cover HUGE distances.

Yes, I spoke with Pete last night and he has assured me the data will be available NLT Wednesday. I will post something once it is out there and let people know.

I do remember, pretty anywhere we were in the city, always showing signal from at least one "tropicana" AP....
thats when we distinguished that it probably wasn't specific to just the hotel.

RE: Maps

Beauty! My personal best was only 378 AP's (in April), but that's with no external antenna on the card, and with the laptop tucked in the saddlebag (fiberglass) on the bike.

I live near Rainbow Blvd and Oakey. Lotsa 802.11b traffic there, but much of it is POS devices in bars and restaurants.
