I find that hard to believe, to tell the truth. But you did start to pick things up in NJ without changing anything? One think I have noticed is that the Rich part of my town does not seem to have very many AP, while the poorer parts of town or loaded with them. In some under say $100,000 parts of town there is a AP in every 10 houses or so, get into the 500,000 and up part of town and if you fine 1 you are doing good.

yes, i did pick them up w/ out changing anything.
i would think that the rich part of town has less cause many new houses in areas like that are being built w/ cat5 cable already run through them, so there is no need for the wireless. as for where i was in PA, it was mostly residential, but i did go through the buisness sections too. and still found nothing.. oh well.. come this time next year, i'll try, try again...RAMBO |

I'd have to agree with grey wolf. Although I am in pittsburgh, which is probaly more "high-tech" than williamsport, I have come across AP's in all kinds of places. Many schools, shopping centers, and even while driving through the "ghetto". (Im talking about a town that some people dont even have solid windows, and theres a couple Linksys AP's!!) So, Id have to believe that you were doing something wrong somewhere.

I have been supprised by where I find AP and where I don't. Lots of places where I expected to find AP I don't! Like in buisness sections. Almost as many places where I didn't think I would find them I do. I don't use an external antenna on my rig, I'm not sure that's important, perhaps it would help on expressways. But for normal residential areas you should be seeing something, if anything is there. Grey

Notes of Onterest
In all honesty, I've found many AP's, but none allow me to share an Internet connection. Yes, I've found a few that were "interesting", but I have no desire to snoop.

Good Luck
It can be interesting, but remember what you are actually doing. Discovering AP's is one thing - using or snooping into them is another. Don't go where you should not be and remember that it can be illegal! There are public AP's and in those cases it's cool to play.
Let me know what you find. Later
