Lehigh Valley, PA
I stumble the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania. I do it out of my car with my IBM 1300i series laptop with a built in IBM High Rate Wireless LAN Mini PC Card.
I live a few miles north of Allentown, PA and have a clear elevated view of the city. Does anyone know of a design for an antenna that pickup from 5-8 miles? |

Fleminton NJ area APs..
Hunterdon Central has a couple APs up around the school. Strangely enough, the NJ State Police have a ZComm AP in each of their barracks (confirmed at at least 3, maybe more).. I've found a ton of stuff using prismstumbler that doesn't show up using netstumbler (passive detection seems to work better..)
Anyone know where there's a parking lot overlooking a large swath of suburbia in the central NJ area. I'm looking for something that's at least 200' above the general landscape to try out a 24dbi dish with a prism based card. I now of the "senic overlook" on 78 just east of 287, but i want to try other spots as well.. On a side note.. I'm trying to document all the Newltel APs in the area. They're a WISP covering much of central jersey. I found an AP somewhere around the Jugtown Mountain area off 78, but I having added GPS support to prismstumbler, so i don't know exactly where. If you guys pick up an AP with "newltel" in the SSID, please post... |

OK.. Switched over from prismstumbler to kismet.. Vast improvement.. For those of you who are using netstumbler to *find* networks, I highly recommend kismet, as you'll find them, but then also be able to see the data in ethereal or tcpdump.. Plus find ad-hoc networks and cloaked networks. On top of that, noone will know you're stumbling (unlike netstumbler, which broadcasts requesting beacons)...
There's a elementry school about 4 miles north of 78 past clinton that has a parking lot directly in the path of a tower to tower link for the local wireless ISP.. Neato stuff.. |

West NY, upstate, NON NYC..?
Anyone else around the NY area, aside from NYC/Long Island? I'm about 2 hours west of Binghamton. Did a little stumble around my little town here, and found 10 APs. 4 of them were businesses, and 6 were residential (guessing). Out of all the ones I found, only 1 had WEP enabled; mine. =) I'm guessing some of the others used MAC filtering, or PPPoE? At least, I hope so. Seems the Linksys wins out for the residential market. (FYI - I have a Dlink (DI713p))

apsniff rules
Actualy, I just went for a drive this evening aroud the suburbs north of the city and found quite a few ap's (Most of which had no WEP at all)
I like apsniff, but it needs some refinement, if I could save that list to disk, or even just enable the control to allow copying it, so I can paste it in an excell spreadsheet or something.... |
