Looking for folks in the Mid Hudson Valley of New York. Our 3-and-a-half person team has done some large scale mapping runs, but the grander the grander. We're all kismet people rather than *stumbler people.
PM me if you're in the area. |

Hey gang, I just set up a website for tracking and all other related 802.11x info for Buffalo, NY.
go to http://www.buffalony-wireless.org and take a peek. Email suggestions and ideas to webmaster@buffalony-wireless.org. Also, feel free to send me any netstumbler files if you have the GPS info included in data. Or email me the exact location of known wireless access points with their SSID, MAC, and whether they have WEP enabled or not I will add the info the maps I have on the website listing Access Point locationSEG

not sure if you got my personal message or not. Thought I would let you know that I accidentally overwrote the directory that had the file you uploaded in it. Can you please re-up it. Thanks a bunch. Also add a bunch more stuff to the site. Check it out and let me know if you have any suggestions:-)

locations?
Have you been able to get a GPS to work at all reliably? Based on small sample areas in midtown and downtown, I expect that there are multiple thousands of APs in the city below central park. I have located almost 100 within a 10 block area that I travel between home and work. But without a way to determine location, it became somewhat pointless.

This hasn't been posted since the new forms have been in place, but if you have some time, check out the sites on the Network Stumblers WebRing...and even add your site to the list!

Just wanna get an idea of what we can expect as far as warwalkers, drivers, and general wireless geeks at the HOPE 2002 convention this year in the city... I'm sure there'll be plenty of WAPs ripe for the associating, heh. Also, there is the NYCWireless project which should be fun to play around with.

From the horses mouth....
I'm on the Networking crew and you can expect alot in the hotel. Hopefully every corner of the 18th and 2nd floor will be covered.
As for the surrounding area, all the maps I've seen are incrediably dense. Warwalking Manhatten sounds like an idea but getting GPS among the buildings ans walking around with A couple grand worth of gear on the streets on NY is not my idea of fun (call me paranoid since I'm out of town) Anyways, just look for a skinny guy with a black fedora pullin cable on Thursday or Speaking late sunday and say Hi and remind me who you are.
