I drove up 101 from here to Coos Bay, and fired up NS when I was coming into town. I didn't find any AP's in Coos county, even though I had NS running every chance I got...
Coming back, I shut down NS from Brookings OR until I was approaching the Golden Gate Bridge. I stumbled on 53 AP's in San Francisco without getting off of the main route (for those familiar w/ the area - Lombard to Van Ness to Cesar Chavez). It just might be worth the trip back up to SF. Good news though: 26 of the 53 had WEP enabled. It's a start... |

I had to go to a doctor appointment in downtown PDX. So I stumbled on the way over. Found 45 APs between home and back. At one stoplight there were at least 5 hitting at once. There's 5 alone in my apartment complex.
It's been about a year since I went...maybe I'll do that this afternoon! -S |

Portland stumbling
i was just up for a day, pushed my laptop against the window to and from PDX(using the wimpy internal card). I managed to get about 57 new of 124 APs (via WiGLE)... sadly my GPS was wonky (tried switching to a USB earthmate, not getting the performance to which i've become accustomed with my old garmin). I'd say there's still a lot to be captured! (I'll bring my garmin next time)

Portland Suburbs Quick Drive
Ok, I'm new here and to this whole wardriving scene. I live in Newberg, a relatively small town about 20 miles or so southwest of Portland.
Right now in this area wireless is HOT!! Those in the area familiar with Fry's in Wilsonville? Wireless routers, access points, cards, etc are dirt cheap. I picked up some wireless routers for $30 each, talk about a deal. Anyway I decided to make a short trip around this small 15 to 20k population town. I only made about a 5 mile, maybe less loop, mostly in business areas with a few residential neighborhood/streets. I was extremely impressed 53 wireless networks wow!! 40 unprotected, 13 with protection, 2 of which were mine. Just makes me wonder how many might be in more residential part of town. Done with network stumbler, sanao nl-2511cd plus ext2 with 2 small 2 db antennas connected directly to the card. My laptop was sitting in the passenger seat which also wasn't positioned very efficiently. GameUtopia Newberg, OR |

There is going to be free wi-fi in the airport for at least a year. Check out this article on it http://www.joejava.com/pdxairport.htm .
