new page for Dallas area stumblers
Since I got my Sapphire GPS a little while back, I've been working on a a project that would let me record the info I got from Netstumbler and share it with the world.
So, here's the prelim. version: http://www.talkingpixels.org/stumbler/main.php Theoretically, the way it's written, it could work for anywhere (just about), but seeing as how I'm in Dallas, I created it more with that area in mind. right now, the upload doesn't work quite right (but hopefully that'll be resolved tonight), but you can signup, and you can look through the APs that I've discovered. I'm still working on a mapping solution that will let me plot all of the APs in an area, but it's getting there.... |

Well, the site is working now - you can create a user, and upload your access points and all.
I have a pretty good idea of how I'm going to do the main DFW map, with the counties and all, so keep an eye out for that - maybe I'll work on it over the new year some... We've already got over 1,000 access points so far - so if you're in the dallas area, hop on over and upload your logs too! http://www.talkingpixels.org/stumbler/main.php |

I just got the search functionality working....
Now you can search by AP name if you're unregistered, but, if you register and log in, you can search by zip or lat/long to see which of the APs in our database are closest to you. you can also specify the radius that you want them to fall in... For example, you could put in 75231, and search for ones within 5 miles, and get a table of results.... fun, huh? ![]() |

I was thinking about the possibility of making the scripts for this site (http://www.talkingpixels.org/stumbler/main.php) Open Source....
How many out there would be interested in something like that? What kind of additional features would you think would be useful that aren't already in there? http://www.talkingpixels.org/stumbler/main.php |

I was just about to ask if your scripts were open source. lol. I would loveeeeee to see the code. I've been planning on doing something similar to that on my site. My problem is importing the data for ap's into the db. It would be helpfull to see how you did it. I would also like to know how you do the mapquest maps.
Thanks -Mr.K Last edited by MRK : 12-31-2002 at 11:22 AM. |

I just finished up a new complete mapping of the Dallas area with this script:
http://66.221.169.254/index.php It pulls the entries from the DB and maps all of them, dynamically on a static map of Dallas. Now, I just need to intergrate it into the rest of the site.... |

Hey guys! I am going to houston next week and was wondering if anyone from that area has any NS files (with GPS coord.) they could send to me so I can easily find some AP's in the area? I checked out the National map, but it is not very good. Also, where is the map query page? anyways...could someone send me some ns1 files from houston, TX. pnunn@laf.lynden.com
