Local groups/links/resources
Geek Austin had a <a href="http://geekaustin.org/articles/01/09/26/229259.shtml">post on local wireless groups</a>, I figured it's be worthwhile to mirror it here:
<a HREF="http://austinwireless.net" target="blank">http://austinwireless.net,</a> <br><a HREF="http://austinwireless.org" target="blank">http://austinwireless.org,</a> and <br><a HREF="http://aawug.org" target="blank">http://aawug.org.</a> AustinWireless.net has a <a href="http://austinwireless.net/index.cgi/MonthlyMeeting">Monthly Meeting</a> on Oct 22 from 6 to 9. I can't make the meeting due to tango lessons, but hopefully I'll stumble into you folks some other time. |

tango lessons.
Tango involves dancing seductively with beautiful women. Football involves watching big guys run around on a field.
My priorities are as follows: Tango > Geeking >> Football (>> designates, here, that in the case of football, I'll find something geeky to do instead) I think they're well organized, m'self. ![]() Now, a wired/wireless latin dance club. I'd be there 24/7. |

Southwest Texas NetStumblers???
I'm down here in Eagle Pass along the Texas/Mexico border, and as far as I can tell, my wife and I are the only stumblers in the area that I know of. We've enumerated a few AP's around town, most associated w/ the local K-12 school district. But aside from that, not much else I've discovered. Now to get me a directional yagi to borrow some bandwidth...

DallasCon Cyberterrorism Summit
Hey everyone
I just wanted to make sure everyone in the DFW area knows about DallasCon. It is taking place on May 4, 2002. It's going to be a great con from what I can tell so far. Check out their site for more info. www.dallascon.com Finally a con taking place in Dallas. If you have a website, support the local scene and help advertise the con. By the way. My AP database is up to 400 unique APs in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex. If anyone wants to add to it let me know. I can be contacted through my website. Later, Wuming www.dfwwireless.org |

Public Access point...
I would like to set-up a public 802.11b AP (On my 10th floor high-rise... Yea lots of range in Dallas!!) But what do I do to lock the users out of my own computer, and keep it secure? Will the wireless router do it? Can I lock out certain ports so it's just http?
I have: Windows ME SMC Networks SMC7004AWBR Wireless 4-Port Broadband Router DSL (1.5Mbps) What to do? |
