Just trying to keep this thread alive. I just got an Orinoco Gold so I'm looking forward to some stumbling. Only problem is I don't have a range extender (I'm really really poor after financing the laptop and buying the Orinoco). Is it still possible to stumble without a dash-mounted range extender?
If anyone can give me tips I'd appreciate it. Also, how are you guys setting up your systems? Do you unbind TCP/IP from the 802.11b card, so that you don't end up intruding on people's networks? I would love it if some Toronto people started sharing maps. Unfortunately, I don't have a GPS... do most of you stumblers have one as well? |

Right, I stumbled for the first time today. Holy crap are there a lot of linksys APs with WEP turned off. I don't know how many sites I found. Maybe 15 to 20 with WEP and 60 to 70 without WEP.
Unfortunately, no GPS. So all I can do is look for interesting SSIDs.The one that cracked me up the most was "Grand & Toy" |

Grand & Toy
Yep, it seems every Grand & Toy location has an AP, maybe for the cash registers?
There is one in the building I live in - no WEP, but the AP has MAC filtering turned on. btw, Range Extender antennae can be had for a fairly good price from http://www.cendirect.com |

Hey Guys:
Thanks for the T.O. info. Have you folks seen the TWCN (Toronto Wireless Community Network) page? You'll find a LOT of sites listed on there. TWCN Home Page Particularly, this page: Proliferation Map Under current findings, Click on "Current Map of WNAP proliferation" I used a great 5dBi omni I got from Signull in the U.S. Signull Web Site Cost me about $30.00 U.S. plus shipping and I'm very happy with it. Hope this helps. Let's keep this post going! HogWylde [quote]Originally posted by raddygast Just trying to keep this thread alive. I just got an Orinoco Gold so I'm looking forward to some stumbling. Toronto, Canada
I checked the list and I am surprised that there is no one from Toronto, let alone Canada.
I can't be the only one wardriving in the Snow? I was recently driving by Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and picked-up on an unsecured wireless networks with the GTAA, not to mention about 80 or so APs I had picked up on an inaugural drive downtown (this was without an external antenna). If you are out there, let me know...... |

A quick use of the search button turned up a bunch of people.
http://forums.netstumbler.com/search...der=descending There are a number of Canadians on here, including myself in Edmonton.
