VA Wireless Club?
Hey guys, Do you want your own forum at http://www.wirelesstalk.net/ ? New site, not much traffic yet, but if you think you will have enough messages to need your own place to talk, just register over there and I'll set up a forum for your area.

Whatsup yall. This is acutally killyt, for some reason i havent been able to get the killyt account to work so i had to switch names. Anyways, Ive been doing alot of driving around town lately, and pickeup prolly about 2500-3000 aps in about 3 or 4 weeks. If only i had a gps ;-( . Anyways, IPHead, hit me up on aim: kiiiyt (anyone else can talk to me on aim too). We should all deff do a group run, see what we could find, espically that darn illusive AIBO dog :-) . We could start a contest or something to see who finds one first. Anyone in this forum using linux/unix ? I found an AP in chatilly the other night that was just crazy, i picked this thing up for almost a 1/4 mile w/o any antenna, anyone else seen that one yet? Ohh yes, and BTW, how many of ya are using antennas?

I am running win2k w/ netstumbler, magmount antenna, and GPS12 Mappoint. I haven't gone hunting in a long time. I have some free time on my hands now, maybe a little evening hunting is in order.
Anyone can IM me as well with the same info: dblrr900 See ya |

Glad to see there are others in this area. I live in Hampton and my girl lives in VaBeach. Just ordered an antenna from here. I believe they give a netstumbler discount, or at least they used too. I would have been all set, except my brother is going on a float to South America and took my gps with him. I either wait eight months or I buy another.
Anyways, I have a couple of netstumbler files if anyone wants to post. although it looks like MToker has all the ones I do plus a couple hundred more... |

I'm a bit shocked to see others locals on here. Anyways, if your in Southeastern Virginia / Tidewater / Hampton Roads and interested -- there is a local 2600 mailing list at 2600@757.org. It is a standard majordomo list. We haven't advertised the list at all, so there is only a handfull of people on it.
email majordomo@757.org with the subject 'subscribe 2600' to join. It has been a year or so since we passivly scanned the area (using FreeBSD and a modified wi-scan script). Found a moderate amount of results using a 12db parabolic directional. |

I'm relatively new to the stumbling thing.. I had been doing it with just my wireless card for a little while, but just got my magmount the other day, and it works great!
Quick scan from my apartment in Herndon, down the dulles toll road to tysons... I turned up 54 access points along the way. a drive down the main roads of parts of Reston and Chantilly, and most of Herndon, turned up 283, of which 87 have WEP on. Imagine how much more could be found actually driving through the neighborhoods and apartment complexes! |
