Cheap GPS puck units

Radio Shack has discontinued the DigiTraveler GPS unit, and is selling them at the closeout price of $29. (Originallly $99.) The DigiTraveler is a "puck" style GPS; about 3-3/4" (9.5 cm) dia. without a display.

Standard NMEA serail output, 4800 baud. (Yes, it works with NS or MS).

It comes in two models: 200-1601 (w/PDA serial cables) and 200-1602 (w/PC serial cable.) Both models are identical with the cables being the only difference. And if you get a PDA model, a PC cable is easy to make.

OK just got back from the shack and bought the last one. Unfortunately it came with cables for 3670/3835 iPaqs and m125/m130/m500/m505/m515/i705 Palms. I need a cable for a 3765 iPaq. If anybody buys one of these and has a 3765 cable they don't need, shoot me a PM.

Just got mine too, sounds like all they have left in stock are the PDA versions.

Having the clerk get me 2 more, he says he can get 12, so anyone wants one.......

Update.

Mine came with an IPAQ 3765 compatable cable, loaded up batteries, inialized the unit, and presto, works fine. Once initialized it would start sending location data with 3-4 seconds after the IPaq was turned on, MUCH faster than the etrex.

Works with pocket maps also.

Uses 3 AAA batteries, so the unit will hold it's initialization through power off, I really think I'm gonna like it.

Thanks Thorn!!!!

Mr. White, you have a PM.

Twisted, you're welcome.

I'm glad it worked out for some other people. It's a hellava bargain at 70% off.

Go Here and see if they have a cable that might fit, like the GP03?

They are a close out item, make sure you ask one of the smarter managers to check availability, and order one from any exsisting stock.

And if you want to wire directly to the Palm 16 pin Universal cable.

I used the cable that shipped with the GPS unit(It had the wrong connector) and cut it loos from inside the Ipaq connector saving the molded strain relief on the cable.

That's cool, but um.... my PDA only has 10 pins not 16, you have the wiring diagram for a Palm IIIxe? I was looking at that one and seeing if I could figure out the same lines on my connector, but haven't found a wiring diagram that shows what the pins are yet.
