Pending the WPA Rainbow Tables Bittorrents going up, I'm making this offer to the NS members: If anyone really wants a copy, I will make them for you. Ship an exteranal HD to me (you pay shipping both ways) and I'll copy the tables for free. You will need to buy a Maxtor One-Touch External HD or other external HD of the USB 2.0 variety over 8GB. (10GB to be sure.) The disk must be blank. It will be sent back with the tables and formatted for the ext2 file system. That will make it suitable for mounting on most *nix boxen, a Linksys NSLU NAS or any other system using the ext2 file system.

PM me for details on the shipping.

Legal Disclaimer & Other Fine Print. The tables are provided as a means of testing WPA systems with coWPAtty. If you do something incredibly stupid with them, don't bother to blame me. I will just laugh at you as Bubba whispers sweet nothings in your ear.

Anything over 8GB; 10 GB to be sure The actual size of the tables came to about 7GB total.

Can a disk image be made with ghost or other software and then compressed to be restored to a ext2 partition later?

It might also make it a bit more download friendly.

I believe that they're binary files so they're already compressed aboot as far as they can be.

If they were executable (.exe) files I'd agree, because most modern compilers compress.

But if the data is raw uncompressed data, binary/ascii it should compress. I wouldn't be surprised to see 6 to 1 or better results.

Well, ya see, I seem to recall already asking Render or Thorn this question and I believed that they had already tried to compress them and found they wouldn't compress.

Of course you could always use the theory that a dude around here that we used to call Flounder had.

He would Zip, then RAR, then ARJ a file because that 'ensured' maximum compression, of course he never realized that the file got bigger each time he added another layer of compression.

My error.. Didn't realize they had already been compressed.
I thought you were assuming because the files were binary they couldn't be compressed.

They compress only about 14% and given the size, not much is saved.

Here's a thought and a means to make a few bucks.

Image with ghost and split the image between 2 dvds. Sell the pair including postage for $10 or so.

Actually, Render has been talking about just that. If it works out he or one of the others is going to do it that way, we can post the details here.
