Finally, someon came out with the communicator from ST:TNG

Now, if they could scale it down a bit for offices and homes, that would really rock.

Very cool device, I can see it being used heavily in hospitals and security areas. Now if they only made an evironmentally hardened one. Like one would be easily affected by hydrogen sulfides and other nasty things that are in the air at my plant.

The local hospital has some kind of RFID device that the nurses wear. You can look on the terminal at any time and see what room what nurse is in.

(Of course, Thorn's nurse is a bit more difficult to locate due to some signal loss because of the two large, uh, er, absorbers near the tag. )

My thoughts for this device in our situation is that right now we use Nextell phones for communication between employees. Most of the time the guys are in the plant but at a different location. This technology could be used to cut back on our Nextell bills, but I don't think that they would survive very long in the environment. Our Nextell phones we have right now are the "weatherproof" ones. So the do last longer than the standard phones, but they still wear out faster than they should.

Our PC"s actually die faster than they should because of the corrosive nature down there.

Toughbooks.

I guess that should have been a statement and not a question...
