Lightbulb New #netstumbler IRC channel

Hi all,

Just to let you know that we've opened a #netstumbler channel on FreeNode.

A few words of caution before you join it:

1. No offensive, abusive, foul etc. etc. language allowed.

2. Do NOT ask stupid questions. If in doubt, ask the stupid question here, be duly flamed, but spare us the suffering of duplicating the effect on IRC.

3. Ocasional off-topic chatter is allowed, however, do not take this as a "you can talk about erectile dysfunction all day long". Try to stay on-topic.

4. No trolling. Please.

Hope to see you there!

Cheers,

Mother

For anyone nt familiar with FreeNode or FreeNode servers.

http://freenode.net/irc_servers.shtml

I wan unable to connect to most of the servers.

Timeout on US and "connection refused" on AU, BR, and EU.

chat.freenode.net worked for me, was there an error during the connection or did it just flat out refuse?

Idents shouldn't be a problem, I first connected without an ident server working and it still let me connect. I installed Ident just for the hell of it.

What client are you using? In any case, the one that's blatantly missing from the official list is irc.freenode.net

Cheers,

Mother

I can join the server fine (using mIRC) but when I try to join the channel, it says "You need to be identified to join that channel".

I'm assuming it's because I don't have port 113 open. There's nothing I can do about that; I don't administer the firewall where I'm connecting from.

No, you need to register your nick and login.

Has the backdoor been removed from mIRC? Last time I did anything with it, there was a major hole in it?

Is there a decent free IRC client that isn't going to open a hole the size of mbologian's well laid ass?

Haven't a clue. I use mIRC or ChatZilla (a Firefox extension).

We actually use IRC/mIRC on SIPRNET all the time. Some people think we use it too much!!!

I haven't been on much in years either, except a few times now and then.
