I didn't hold back very long... and I even posted a hint here where I was sniffing... <points to pic on previous page and comment therein>

Cairns, Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne, Canberra, and Sydney. And more on Guam too. Yeah, I've been busy. Now if only I could shake this cold/flu/whatever I caught down there.

Just an FYI, I picked up a nice 5 dbi omni at Altex for 10 bucks (it was on clearance, out of box type sale) that had the correct pigtail on it to mate up to my lead from my orinico card.
I have it temp mounted on my SUV and took it on a drive on a known route that usually hits me about 700 AP's.. I saw the #'s double.. so I have 2 files cued up at Wigle which should move me up a number in stats.

The antenna is a Dlink model, is for outdoor use and is about 10-12 inches tall, so an parking garage with 6'6" clearance is a close fit.

Ah, Guam - I remember it well. Three years (1978 - 1981) and thousands of HAM radio contacts. Do they still have that giant Pacific Marlin, former world record, hanging in the terminal at the airport?

True that. I picked this Dlink antenna up at Altex here in Houston for 10 bucks. It was marked clearance no return so I asked the guy if I could test it, brought the war driving laptop in the store, connected, picked up a bunch of AP's, then dis-connected the antenna and used the on board on the classic gold card. Big difference in count, so I bought. I have it mounted on my SUV and I can still fit under a 6'6" clearance so its nice.

Last night when I was downtown in Houston, I was stopped at a light waiting for the light to change, and the AP count went UP by 50.

Once I get some income coming in (sucks to be un-employed) either a job or my un-employment kicks in, I plan to drive a little more.

Getting the antenna outside the metal box works wonders. I noticed that if you move even a few feet ( waiting for the light ) you will have a better chance of logging more AP's.

Not yet I have.. but then again, if you had some files you had not uploaded, then yeah overcoming a 1002 AP count lead is no big deal.

Sad thing is, I uploaded a 6000+ AP file and only got credit for 1600 of them.

Hey I was in the same boat... mine was 6309 total with credited 1844.

Thing is that this last drive was pretty much a path I have driven time and time again. This new antenna is helping me see a few more plus more people are adding Wifi.

Last place I worked, the office had alot and I mean ALOT of laptops that were connecting wifi using a 128 bit WEP key. I decided to do let my laptop run in my truck using one of those cheezy airlink 10 dbi omni's for internal use. (hooked laptop up to one of those all in one battery car jumpers.. mine has a 400 watt inverter, 2 AC plugs and 2 Cig lighter plugs, basically add that to my 2 batteries on the laptop I had 11 hours of run time) I did some packet gathering.. in about 2 hours I had well over 150,000 packets. It would not take someone long to crack this place.

I pointed this out to the main admin and he said he did not care, that running wires was something he did not like to do.
