Damn - well, I did not try the 'r' trick. Just made sure that gpsd was running and then took off. Uploaded the .xml file to WIGL and 1091 newly discovered networks but zero GPS again. Sounds like a project for this weekend when I can get some time outside.
Update: GPS is not working with any of three BT2 installations. GSPD is running but when I telnet to port 2947 and type 'r' I get GPSD, R0 and then type r again and get GPSD, R1 .. Back to the drawing boards. Last edited by DaKahuna : 11-13-2007 at 06:22 PM. |

Just uploaded another file, and broke into the 20,000 club.
was not a serious drive, did it on the way to and from a job interview.

Well, despite many efforts and even some sage advise from Thorn I was unable to get the GPS working with kismet. So, having just received a new HP 2510 from work I installed NetStumbler on it, loaded the drivers for the GPS and fired it up on my drive up to my daughter's for Thanksgiving dinner.
Results - 408 new networks, all with GPS added to the WIGLE stats. Not bad considering this was all done with the internal antenna on the 2510 as I did not have a chance to install the drivers for my Enterasys Roamabout in order to use the external antenna. Update: Added another batch of new ones on the drive home and moved from 1091 to 870 or so (page 9) on the stats. Last edited by DaKahuna : 11-22-2007 at 10:37 PM. |

Did another short drive (combining job interview runs with wardriving)
Got about another 1000..... Did some looking at Wigle's groups as a whole.... it does not appear that other groups are as active as ours.... not to mention we have more members in ours than any 8-10 groups combined. One thing for sure, once I get sustainable income I will try to get out more and drive as this new antenna I have works very well and I can be setup in the SUV in about 3-4 minutes (antenna is always mounted, just have to connect pigtail, boot laptop and fire up GPS)

I noticed the same thing. I am amzed that people can get 14,000 plus in a month. They must live on the road. I am pretty active now on a daily basis and have moved my status up to #581 (page 6!). I do not have a permanent installation and am hampered by three things that I will overcome eventually (1) my GPS cable length restricts where I an put the laptop, (2) the car power cord limits where I can put the laptop, and (3) I still have not resolved the issue with my GPS getting data to kismet so I am using a Windows XP laptop running NetStumbler whiich I can not simply leave in the car.
Good news is I have a trip to San Diego coming up this month and this rig will be going with me so I'll cover some new to me territory the two days I am out there. |

Guess I am lucky, I got mine all rigged with a DC-DC ps, have 2 cig adapters in suv plus some splitters, a cig adapter extension, a gps holder that powers the gps and mounts via suction cups, and a sunroof I can run my 5 foot pigtail to the antenna.

I'm going to try to do my whole trip. Should pick up a few in the 3000 plus miles.
