These two should be changed, the other params look fine.
Your current Nav Elev. mask states that you won't use any satelittes lower than 7.5 degrees over the horizon. Use 's 8b 00 32 00 32 <enter>' to change it to 5 degrees over the horizion, which often can mean the difference between getting a 3D solution vs a 2D or nofix.

There's something wrong with your Nav Power mask data though, if it's 0xE. The lowest value a SirfStarII chipset can have there, is 20 db hz. Default values is normally 28 db hz ( 0x1C for tracking) and 30 db hz (0x1E for navigation). Set both of them to 20 db hz with 's 8c 14 14<enter>'

Thanks! I'm still going to use your settings but I thought you'd be interested in these first. So you have to set these for each session? I'm assuming they're not stored in the GPS.

Also, I had to start GPSDrive and its GPSD to see any data coming through sirfmon.

Thanks for the link to Trimble. I'm downloading it now.

Thumbs up

Mark57, Kudos with the monthly dump stats! breaking 5k in 8 days is pretty nice. With your amping I may have to pull double duty soon!

Huh ?
The params are stored in the gps untill it hardresets.. There should be a batterybacked SRAM in the unit. But a hardreset can sometimes happen if you pull the USB cable from the PC without having the system down. I just fire up sirfmon after connecting the GPS, and check if the params are correct.

As for having to fire up gpsdrive and gpsd first, that shouldn't be necessary. gpsd shouldn't be running when using sirfmon (unless you are using the gpsd from ESR with a version higher than 2.27)
Also be sure you are running the forked gpsd from gpsdrive (in the /usr/src/gpsdrive-2.0.9/src directory), and not the standard gpsd. I have copied the gpsdrive gpsd to /usr/sbin and renamed it gpsd_old, so I'm certain which one I have running.

Thanks. It's been a big help. I was hoping to clear 1,000 a day for September, but I don't think that's going to happen.

This GPS seems to reset pretty easily. I always do a shutdown before removing it.

Hmm, it would seem I don't have the 2.09 version of GPSD. I searched. Things are becoming much more clear now. I do have the 2.28-2 ESR version which explains sirfmon wierdness.

Now I know what needs to be done. Thank you!

I probably could have labeled it better. Either way, I think the effects from that flare are just now beginning to take place and probably did not affect the GPS constellation as far as the issues I was having.

I was out for several hours today and never lost lock.

Based on my discussions with Dutch, I *think* my issues were with gpsd and not the gps receiver itself. I can count on one hand the number of times I've lost lock in the several years I've had it. I went through the double tunnel on the PA turnpike and actually had a few gps hits in the hundred or so meters between the two tunnels.
