almost gave up, but...
Dell Inspiron 2650
XP SP1 Cisco 350 Aironet Client Utility 6.x 350 firmware 4.25.30 NDIS 5.1 here's the weird part - you can use the ACU 6.x, but it will load the newest firmware upon doing so, so you must then flash the 350 with the 4.25.30 firmware immediately after selecting the driver - you can check the firmware version using the "Status" button in ACU 6.x i was unable to get this setup to work any other way with XP and the 350, including going back to the older versions of ACU. now, i'm a happy camper (er, driver) |

Just starting the stumbler game with a d-link DWL-AB520 multimode on XP. It is a PCI bus card with an antenna hardwired on a coax cable about 3 feet long. I have a full size Ford van with a sunroof. A desktop system is mounted behind my seat, with a 17 inch LCD on the doghouse. The antenna goes out the sunroof, and I'm a stumblin' fool! The AB520 card connects to 802.11a and/or 802.11b networks automatically, so my logs show both a and b networks (actually, mine is the only 11a I've found, but I have not gone very far from home yet)
Theoretically, I should be able to stumble 11g networks, but I'm not sure how I would tell them apart. The only way I can see to tell 11a from 11b is the channel numbers. It was a rough start, the driver that shipped made clicking the stumbler icon like russian roulette, blue screening 2 out of 3 times, was beginning to be a pain till I actually pulled over and checked the XP dump file. A3AB.sys right on top. d-link site has a new driver dated 31 March 2003, and it is much happier now, and the new utility program is much cooler. The old driver even took my wireless router down when I tried setting up the 152 bit WEP, d-link was even ready to give me an RMA on the router. One of these days I might even give them a call and tell them what the problem was really. I have a DeLorme Earthmate GPS, which does not seem to work. Thought I saw something about adding support in an upcoming release, soon I hope! 16 April -- I may have spoken too soon on the driver fix. It seems that as long as I am already connected to some wireless network when I start netstumbler, everything works fine. But try to start while the driver is searching for a wireless node and BLAM! Or rather BSOD! Curious. Last edited by Steve Weber : 04-16-2003 at 08:16 PM. |

Working Windows XP Professional Configuration
- XP Pro
- Linksys WMP11 PCI Wireless NIC - WAP11 Access Point - DWL-900AP+ firmware "hack" *DID* have difficulty getting NS to work with the WMP11. This is how: 1) Install NS (latest version) 2) Install Linksys WMP11 Drivers 3) Done... open NS! ![]() If you WMP11 is already install, uninstall it via device manager, restart, and just install NS. I love war driving.... obviously not on this one.... but on my laptop ![]() |

Toshiba 2455-s3001 Laptop w/ XP Pro. Built in Agere adapter. Works great but not much range. Needs ext. antenna, but I don't wanna hack the case.
I also have a WUSB11 that I use to throw on the dashboard. Seems to be a lot more sensitive. The WUSB11 works ok in NS, but doesn't display channels or correct signal/Noise ratio.

Works with XP home on a Toshiba Laptop using a Belkin card. I'm a little confused though, because Net Stumbler seems to say it's a Prism card, but it doesn't have an available NDIS 5.1 mode, all I have is one that says Prism 2. And that one works.
I had to upgrade to new drivers though, before I did NetStumbler seemed confused, sort of seeming to work but not actually seeing anything. But it works well and I picked up a newer 802.11b control panel that came with the driver upgrade, so I'm happy. |

Ye olde Toshiba Portege 3440CT.
Windows 2000 Pro, SP3. Netgear MA-401 Wireless PC Card. Using the drivers that came with the CD. Selected Prism 2 from the Device menu. Netstumbler installed fine - no problems at all. Like a typical user, didn't read the manual, however, after letting the software run for about a minute, it picked up a WAP in my building. sweet. really crap SNR, but hey, I was just curious to see if anythis was alive round my area.... nicely done Marius! ![]() scb[uk] |

Succesful Cisco w/ XP
Dell C640
XP Cisco Airo 350 Downloaded the most recent version of the flash, ACU, and NDIS from the Cisco site. Flash: V5.02.19 ACU: 6.00.023 NDIS: 8.3.10 I followed previous replies on how to make this work. The key is to change the profile selection to "Use another program to configure my wireless settings". This releases hold of the wireless card so that netstumbler can access and change the settings on the card. |

Have a Dell 8200 inspiron, Linksys WPC54G card and XP. After I uninstalled the linksys supplied utilities and ran just the driver for the card NS works like a CHAMP! I am also using a Magellan Meridian Platinum GPS. Complete Sucess!
I just need to figure out what all this info means! Loads of networks around here! ![]() -CM |
