Buying an antenna
Hey,
I was looking through all the posts about antennas and i noticed that an omni with too high dBi will "flatten" out the signal area, so higher isn't better. Being a first time stumbler, I've concluded that 8 dBi omni is a good balance between the best reception area (volume) and money. (Correct me if i'm wrong). Now, I know that a lot of people here build their own antennas, and i'm planning on building a directional one later, but I want to buy this one for reliability reasons. I have two questions, very n00bish, but I've searched the fourms and couldn't find an answer (perhaps my fault). 1) What's a good online source for +8 dBi omni (or any) antenna, that's balanced between quality and price? 2) Does the antenna have a wire that directly plugs into the card (mine is an Orinoco), or do I have to result to soldering and buying converters? Tnx for the replies, and if these questions have already been answered, but i didn't find in my search, please KINDLY redirect me there. Tnx |

Antenna
Hello All,
I also am looking to get an antenna, price under $250 is fine... I am hoping to use it for wardriving nearby, then possibly mount inside or outside. My access point is a linksys. I assume I nead a card with the jack on it, but my question is whats the best omni directional or dish type with the highest gain, that can be mounted to a car's roof rack and later transferred to a pole or interior. I am hoping to pick up some signals nearby, such as the starbucks down the street .Any ideas would be great... Regards, GW |
