need help with antenna!!!!

I want to put an antenna in my car for wardriving and I was wondering if the homemade omni here: http://wireless.gumph.org/articles/homemadeomni.html
would pick up anything if I layed it on top of the backseat.
I dont really want to put one on top of my car.
Please respond with any comments or ideas.

Do you have enough gauges on your status display? Shoot.. or are they mostly designed to be on the right side or something?
