w00t! 5dbi antenna really packs a punch!
Before we'd get around 30-35 AP's in about 2 hours... tonight with the fab-corp magmount we got 102 AP's in 1 hour! That's 6 times as good
![]() /me wonders what a 12dbi omni would do...

This has been discussed before: 12 dB omni will have so "flat" pattern that ther results will vary:
You would likely find some new access points and miss a few others (which 5 dBi omni catches). This is because 12 dBi antenna's gain falls rapidly when the target is off the antenna's plane, and APs elevated too high may go undetected. |

I borrowed a 10 dBi from work a while back and could not pick up an AP we had on the 3rd floor from the street, but I can pick it up with my 5dBi. I considered a nice 8dBi to kind of "middle-road" it, but the 5 dBi was much easier for mounting/concealment.

You guys might want to check the fourth post down on this thread: http://forums.netstumbler.com//showt...&threadid=2973 I've posted a very rough and simplified idea of how changes in gain changes the pattern that an antenna will pick up. It's enough to give you the idea.

I'll have to post pics of the vehicle setup once I get the cable runs done.
