Character LCD NS Stats script

I wanted to know what NetStumbler was up to while I was driving, but I didn't want to leave the laptop screen up, and try to read it while in motion. This script allows me to connect a character LCD and easily view some of the current stats.
Picture
It's setup to show the current number of New, Old and Lost APs, the current Best S/N ratio, the total number of APs found, current speed and Lat/Lon position.

Enjoy!

nsLCD.zip

Why can't we attach .ZIP files?

The display is a CrystalFontz 634 type. The one I have is a USB connection, with a virtual serial port driver. I haven't looked into any other displays, and I don't know if other serial displays would work this this script. The 634 is very easy to send info to.

Nice work

I wanted to do something similar with my Palm device. I haven't had time to play with it, but the goal was to dump NS data out the serial port and display on the Palm. I'll certainly share if I ever find time to put that together, but with 4 kids and in the process of adopting another I'm a bit busy.

Where did you get the virtual serial port driver? is there something similar for parallel? I have a 4x20 that I wanted to make USB but don't have a PIC programmer to program the firmwares into the proper chips.

Checked his link. The windows software is near the bottom of the page. Http://www.crystalfontz.com/products/634usb/index.html

Wow, that thing looks really cool!

I agree that this is a lot better than trying to read the laptop, but I would really not recommend doing this. Driving is something that requires your full attention. Trying to read something could be even more distracting than using a cell phone. Stumbling is something that can be done without user intervention. Netstumbler can give you Audio response about signal strength and when you are in the presence of an AP. A better alternate would be to bring someone else with you. Going with someone else is a lot more fun, and they can tell you how many you have found, or can even restart your computer when you BSOD it. In any case, please be responsible with your stumbling, there are other lives on the road other than your own.

I can't get the link to work, may just be me.
If anybody has this software could they please post it or E-mail it to me? It's exactly what I would like to do as my 15" is a bit bright at night and I already have a Crystal Fontz LCD mounted in the Supra.
Thanks

Thanks for making this, I was dead chuffed when I saw it. I suggested this feature to be implemented into NS long before scripting was available, and now you've done it, ace.

1 problem though, I can't download it, both the .zip and the screenshot timeout beofre anything happens. Anyone else having this prob?

thanks again!
