Talking MapPoint plus speech for NetStumbler 0.4

I took this script out for a drive with 0.4 this evening. It was most pleasant. No glancing across to squint at the list of networks - just glance at MapPoint, and listen to the names of the networks as they appear!

Now that you have scripting that doesn't suck, go forth and multiply. Or something.

I like the script! I tested it out on the way to McDonalds at lunch. The lady at the drive through looked at me pretty strange as I picked up two AP's at the pickup window, while netstumbler was reading of then AP names! lol!
Thanks for the awsome program and script Marius!

Hot Dam... It's like Xmas all over again...

First the new stumblers, and now a new script.. KICK ASS!!!

PS: Open up MP2002/2004 first, then start NS, as it doesn't open
MP by itself...

@Madhadder

At first I had a similar problem when running this script with MP'04. Then I found out for some reason MP was running as a system process in the background. Once I killed that process and reopened NS, MP'04 opened up right along with it.

Switch off GPS in MP.
Switch on GPS in NS.
The script will show a highlighted red car where you are.
Hmmm... Now that I got rid of my red car and have a black one, I have to edit the script...

Sounds great!

Thank you for all the good work Marius,

I do have some "beginner" questions about your script

NS 0.4 readme says it has been developed to run on 2000/XP
machines, but gladly it also did run on my Win98Se machine.
Does your script make any use of special features of win2000/XP
(DLL's/Processes etc) - in other words, will the script run on a laptop
with Windows 98 SE (With NS0.4 / MP2004)? (Or even with NS 0.3.3;
you developed it for NS0.4, thus it will noy work for NS0.3.3?)

Thanks in forward

(btw excuse my bad english - I'm Dutch )

Another question, can we get just speach output without mappoint? I would test it, however, I don't have a laptop this weekend.

Speech is not an exclusive part of Mappoint, you should be able to modify the script to remove all references to Mappoint and leave the speech portion.

After taking a look at the script, Yep it can be done without to many problems.

Would you modify the script for me? I'm lazy. J/K. I will ask you for help if I broke it.

What the crap, I thought weeding all of the microsoft out of the code was going to be easy, but it is a persistant pain! I hope that this isn't going to be a wasted effort because someone already made a speech script.

I am experiencing come problems with the script. Because of my rather old machine (Thinkpad, PII 233MHz, 4GB HDD) I do not want to install the speech stuff. So I tried deactivating the speech in your script by setting it to False. But that did not work. Instead I got an errormessage saying "New_SSIDs undeclared" at line 275. I figured this must be because it is declared inside a If UseSpeech. So I started searching for everything that had something to do with the speech and outcommented it. That seemes to work quite well, but after finding the first AP the script stops plotting the APs to the Map. The car is still moved on though... After a while NetStumbler crushes but I do not know why. Did not note the errormessage down and do not have the posibility to try it out right now but I'll give the errormessage later.
Do you have idea what the problem with this is?

Oh, and are the pictures for the nice red car (which actually fits mine) listed somewhere?

If you are not running XP or W2K then expect problems.

Modified to not use Mappoint

Ok. I modified this to allow you to turn off Mappoint, and also turn off the signal strength sounds. I do not have Mappoint, and it appears to work ok on my system. Some brave soul want to test it to make sure Mappoint still works?
