Post NS Summary parser

This is a very simple script which goes through a master NS Summary file (must be named 'master.txt') in the current directory, and creates a new master summary file called 'newMaster.txt' while removing duplicate AP's (based on MAC - which is unique).

update: ok, as the other members have graciously pointed out, the merge feature in NS already does this. you may safely ignore this post.

You could save a massive step by not bothering at all. Just combine your .ns1 files, netstumbler will merge all duplicates. Then you can export a lovely neat .txt file.

The 'newMaster.txt' can then be imported back into NS, or StumbVerter without any duplicates.

What I have been doing is combining my summary files into one big file (called 'master.txt' - using cat eg: cat *.txt >> master.txt), then filtering out the duplicates using this script, importing the file back into NS, then saving it as a NS file (.ns1). I use the summary file for StumbVerter, and the ns1 file for an online site called 'GPS Visualizer' (http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/map?form=wifi .

Very quick and dirty, nothing fancy. I could probably save a step and just combine all the summary files without using cat and the initial master file, maybe I'll add this later when I'm not feeling so lazy.

Likewise I have been combining my NS1 files. From NS use File/Merge and as The Others has pointed out duplicates magically disappear! Congratulations on re-inventing the wheel!
