signal strength script?

I am new to wireless networking in the first hand, although I've done a lot of fox hutning in ham radio, so this is a nice tool that I've found to play with. However, I'm also trying to determin if my own AP is having problems... it seems, according to net stumbler, that after letting it run for awhile that a "fake" AP with mac 00000000000 that has my networks ssid pops up. I have not yet corrolated that to my own network.

Basically what I am wondering is there anyway to log perodically the signal strength of my own network (as well as appeareances/dissaperances) and of the rouge. I'm just hoping my AP isnt deciding to reboot itself sporaticaly.

Why do you post this in the script-section?

todkapuz - don’t know if your question has been answered, but if you go to the netstumber forum and search on drop out or capturing crop out you will see what you are looking for; it’s built into NS.

Just run NS for a while and export the scan. This will give you a text file you can sort and search in Excel or other similar program of choice. Look for the Signal to Noise ratio. If your AP is dropping out or losing its’ strength you will see ratio drop.

This is exactly how I confirmed an intermitted Access Point problem.

what about real time logging to a file?

How can I log in real time to a file? I need to process in real time my APs signal strength to make decisions with my program. Any script that will do it?

So what do you need... To log data or see the data realtime? You can see signal strength in realtime right on the NS screen. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

If all you need is the current status, you can use something like the master script. Turn speech and MapPoint off, and DiGLE on. Augment the DiGLE to add a "OnScanResult" type function that sends the signal and noise data to the registry (assuming the SSID and/or BSSID match) and get it called by the master. Then have your main program periodically read the registry.

If you also want history, it's pretty simple to append to a file with the info. But that wouldn't necessarily be the "real time" you said you sought.
