I'm working on some enhancements (hopefully) to rogerRabbit's TrackNS script. The big one is to plot some hint of AP related data on the real-time track. Since all the script gets is a count of New and old APs, I'm changing the track color depending on the AP counts reported. I also added a 'dotted line' track, and the size of the dot indicates the total count of APs being heard.
http://216.39.145.11/images/NSTrackSample.jpg In the sample image, green indicates a 1 or more new AP found, and yellow is 1 or more existing (and 0 new). Dot size grows by (total APs / 2) pixels. I seem to recall that no more than 6 APs total were see at anytime when I created this sample. Dots are spaced 50ft apart. The colors I picked suck, so I'm trying to find a set of colors that will work better. I hope to post the new script soon. |

Excerpt from the readme:
New features compared to rogerRabbit's original TrackNS: - All setting are now in the system registry rather than TXT files - Track plot can be either the original line style or a Dot style - Track plot can be colored based on new/old APs located in the area - Track plot in dot-style can change size based on # of APs found in the area - Audio is supported - Audio can be enabled/disabled - Audio tones for SNR level can be suppressed. - The MapPoint application window can be kept on top and sized to overlay part of Network Stumbler - A .PTM file with prior track data can be loaded on startup - Zoom level is only set once, allowing native MapPoint controls to be used for Zoom. |

One more thing. If audible SNR feedback is disabled, the script will try to play a ns-tick.wav file. (here) I found the Pinball game supplied with Windows 2K/XP is a excellent source of alternate NS sounds.

There's a version of TrackNS that does this:
http://wardrive.eyecannon.com/stumbmap04.jpg and improved version like that would own. I have the script somewhere if you need it...

The latest TrackNS I found is 0.1.5, which scribbles the GPS points on the map in real-time, and logs breadcrumbs to a file as well. It appeared that the breadcrumbs where to be imported later, but perhaps they can be entered in real-time via MP's data-query features. Network Stumbler does not pass down the AP details in the current version, so real-time plotting of AP location is not possible. I use Stumbverter to plot them on the same map I used for the track in a post-processing phase.

That script does not plot individual APs in real time either, but it is ready to do that once Network Stumbler is updated to call the OnScanResult script entrypoint. Right now, all any script gets is a count of the new and known APs since the last scan, and the best SNR of all of them. Stumble-map-track uses these counts to plot the circles. I had hoped it may be actually plotting AP range rings, which currently is only possible with post-processing of a NS text export file.
So, being a newbie to the forum (and wardriving in general), I didn't read through everything to see that something similar had been done. I think I actually tried that script, but it didn't work for me (probably due to other problems).Last edited by RedRocket : 04-30-2003 at 11:15 AM. |

.... I have used that script, despite what it says it does plot those range circles in realtime. Maybe you should TRY IT?!
