Two APs connection switch
We have this mini-robot that can be controlled to move around. There are two APs in a 20 by 20 feet area. The robot can hear both APs all the time. The signal strengths of the APs are both quite good to connect to. What I need to do is to set up the entire network that allows the signals and data to transmit back and forth to the robot. Now I need to write a program that connects the mobile robot to one of the APs according to their signal strengths so that the robot is always connected to the AP that has the stronger signal of the two(it is not roaming since the robot can hear the APs quite well). I am just wondering if anyone has come up with any idea with this. Thank ahead.

Again I refer you to the 802.11 specification. Thats the way it works! It is called "Roaming"! Go get the specification and read it. Last edited by wrzwaldo : 06-06-2005 at 05:05 PM. |

Some linux drivers have allowed "locking on" to a given MAC. Conceivably, you could write a script which would stop the driver, unload it and then switch to any other, but you'd be breaking and reestablishing the TCP/IP stream, and breaking who knows what else. I have to ask though, in an area that tiny why would want two APs and what is the purpose of doing this?
