One last batch
I dug up some larger collections of NS1 data off the web (I think it was someone from these forums, but I don't remember at the moment). I've updated my quick'n dirty sample page. Please review the samples here. I had to drop a couple of the pics that I created due to file size limitations on my free hosting.
I hope someone out there finds this useful. Enjoy!

I'm pretty sure you're right
Thorn,
I went searching and I'm pretty sure you've nailed it. I think it was his website where I found the .NS1 files. Thanks AgentGreen!

MUHAHAHAHA! ![]() Actually, there's a pretty mundane explanation. I'm originally from that general area, and because of that it stuck in my mind that AgentGreen had done a lot of stuff through there last year.

Update to USA Photomaps
I asked the author of USA PhotoMaps for an enhancement and he was gracious enough to spend the time adding it. USA PhotoMaps now has an option to display a label for each Waypoint. I'll post some updates to my quick'n dirty map page shortly.
I've also contacted the author of the NS1-GPX conversion tool to see if he's going to post that information to the forums. More to follow.

Final post of sample maps
captaindrewle, thanks for all your work. Here is a quick sample of the results of all your hard work.
Everyone, please note, the vendor of USA PhotoMaps was willing to make a mod to the program to display data labels for each Waypoint. I've used that feature in creating these sample maps. They are a bit busy, but were whipped out in just a couple of minutes. I hope you like them. If the link above isn't working for you, the full URL is: http://www.atriskonline.com/mapping/ Enjoy!

Or you could just relocate to where the maps are.
Seriously, I understand the limitations for folks outside the US. Must really suck! The really interesting thing about that application is that the map is made up of individual tiles, a matrix of about 100 tiles makes up the maps you see. I'll try to get a screenshot to show you how it looks partially filled in.

Hmmm
Found a small issue.
I had a ns1 file w/ approx 139 aps on it...... When I did the conversion w/ the above mentioned util, only 68 of them were copied as waypoints.. This is due, from what i can figure, to the fact that many ap's were found at the same gps coordinates... So it only plots one.... I think this setup is awesome, but becuase of this one thing, it has some limited capabilities.. Suggestions for possible enhancements - please advise if feasable or not. 1) Color coded dots... red for wep'd aps and green for open.. 2) If multiple aps are registered to the same gps coordinate - to have a second (or third, fourth etc..) dot in the same location to list that AP.. Or maybe have a diff color dot and when you click on it it will open up a 'batch' window showing all ap's in that location... some way should be figured out for this problem, as you can loose a majority of your ap's.. I haven't even played with this, but is it possible for this mapping software to track, or draw a line, following where you are and where you are driving?? (using like commfoolery or some such thing, run this and ns at the same time, and have the mapping softwar track your route, and then convert your ns1 logs later on.. so then you have your route and your aps displayed at the same time... Great program(s) though!!! Love em!!

Re: Hmmm
I'm not sure how much I can answer, but I'll try.
Were the APs at identical waypoints, or were some of the waypoint coordinates "out of bounds" or invalid? If the map program cannot handle multiple waypoints with the same coordinates, then I'm not sure what can be done except to beg the developer for an enhancement. The program is available at JDMCox. Colored dots are a feature of the program. I have not expiremented with that possibility yet, but its one I want to explore. I'll post my findings. Creating a route or line can be done, but so far it appears that the application uses map "northing" coordinates, not lon/lat coordinates. I have not researched that fully either. I'll let you know what I find on that as well. Quote:

Hmm
In regards to the ap's... They might be the same SSID names or such, but completely different mac address's etc...
just what I detected in one location.. for instance, i have an ap and so does my neighbor - only his ap shows up, both were recorded with the relative same gps coordinates.... its the only reason i can think of as to why his shows and mine doesn't.. not to mention the other 60+ that weren't converted over.... I will try to contact the developer and see if anything is in the works, or to see if it is anything that can be done for the other issues.... would be EXTEREMLY interested in hearing about the color coded dots and the route tracking if you get a chance to play around with it.. I can think of many uses for this..
