Ok it had to be asked eventually so I figured I'd take the bullet for this one.

I've never really done any script writing (except that movie I'll never get the studios to buy) but I want to start. Now I'm not asking anyone to show/tell/teach/walk me through writing scripts.

I want to know what Script language you prefer and why?

Network Stumbler 0.3.30 supports (per the dropdown box):

XML
VBScript
VBScript.Encode
JScript
JScript.Encode
SignedJavaScript
SignedVBScript

Do you prefer one of these or is your favorite something else not listed here. That's what I want to know.

Actually, Marius stated that NS will show you in the drop down whatever your machine has installed on it... so on your machine you have not installed a flavor of perl and therefore do not show perl... NS does not run the script but passes the script to your system.

So... you are not restricted to VBScript. I have a piece of JScript that works. Or you can use any other language that appears in the scripting dialog box, since it gives you a list of what's on your system. Just make sure your script provides the same function names (OnScanResult, etc) as the default script.

I am working on proper documentation, as well as some samples in Perl and Python.

I saw he had mentioned about it not actually being run by NS and wondered why perl wasn't listed since I had heard it mentioned alot. I didn't realize the dropdown list was based on what's installed on my machine.

I use vbscript to whip things off for COM-interoperability, as there are sooo many Microsoft samples.

I prefer JavaScript, as it is cleaner, and truer to form than vbs....

perl.... yuck (ducks, runs for cover), gimme python or ruby or java or C# over perl, any day of the week.

So the question follows, how do you "install Perl" on your machine. I've always just used perl in cygwin.

I use perl for all backend scripts and php for my front-end brochure ....

Thanks to activestate.com ,now runs on windows os too.

Umm, perl 4.36 has been running on Win32 platforms since 1993 thanks to Intergraph. The Hip/Active Ware/Active State port dates back to around 1997 thanks to funding from Microsoft. There are other ports available on CPAN.
