Same situation
I also have a Buffalo card. The previous post points out a URL ... this only provides firmware updates for the wireless access points. Perhaps I will email Buffalo and ask abut firmware updates. I am using the latest driver (1.30). Which can be found on the above URL.
Austin System: Micron Millenia Transport P133; 32MB RAM Win98 SE Buffalo WLI-PCM-L11 Card works fine under normal operation in Win98, Win95, Linux, and OpenBSD. Scanning with evil pete's sript works fine. |

Got the same problem. Buffalo Tech WLI-PCM-L11 in an IBM Thinkpad A21p. Specifically, the laptop has a Texas Instruments PCI-1450 Cardbus controller. What PCMCIA/Carbus controllers are in the Dells?
I tried it on a friend's Dell Inspiron 8000 w/ a built-in TrueMobile 1150 wireless card (mini-PCI) which I believe is a Lucent based card as well, and had the same problem. Still trying to figure out where the problem is. Anyone have any ideas? Drivers are up to date. Both systems are running W2K. |

Buffalo
I have been quite happy with the cards. Its too bad that it doesn't work yet. I thought perhaps it was a firmware thing, but they don't have any FW upgrades yet. I have talked to their tech support regarding FW upgrades. They don't have any, and if we break it they have no tool to fix it (i.e. I was thinking about trying the Orinoco FW upgrade, its a similar card ... but I don't know anything about it, maybe its identical, just a different name silk screened on it, but I didn't want to burn a card, not to mention I am working on a Free/OpenBSD program similar to NetStumbler.)

same here
Here's what I've got:
- Buffalo WLI-PCM-L11 - Dell Latitude (TI PCI-1225 CardBus Controller) - Window 2000 Professional (SP2) Installed latest drivers from the AirStation 1.50 CD...W2K shows the driver is MELCO WLI-PCM-L11 Wireless LAN Adapter version 1.21.0.0. The card works but NetStumbler doesn't seem to see it. |

Buffalo for napping...
Well...I spent a couple days adding yet another operating system to my laptop. Many a bitter hour spent cursing as I try to get all of them working together nicely. Now it's done.
Now that I have Win98 installed along side W2k and Linux, I was able to install the Orinocco drivers and yes, they did work. As mentioned by another poster, the drivers work with the card, but the Control Panel applet (which is what does most of the configuration) doesn't like talking to the Melco card. Fortunately, the radio can be turned on by running the "Test Card" in the Client manager. Then, Netstumbler works beautifully with the card. The upshot is that I can hunt under Win98, but I can't connect to any AP's. I can connect in Linux and W2k, but I can't hunt. Another point: The Orinocco firmware upgrade was successful on the Buffalo card once the drivers would talk to it, but I haven't noticed any change in behavior. The card still works, the Buffalo drivers will still talk to it, and the Orinocco W2K drivers won't. |

Buffalo WLAN Card
One of my co-workers is running the same laptop (Dell Inspiron 3800) and O/S (W2k) as I. He is using the Dell WLAN card and claims complete success with NetStumbler. When he tried my Buffalo WLI-PCM-L11 card in his laptop, using his Dell card driver, it detected new hardware. This suggests that there is a hdwe and/or a FW difference between these cards. This begs the question: What chipset/FW was NetStumbler written for?

Of course it is dead . The thread is over 18 months old. Additionally the forums have changed since then. Do a search.
