Hello All,
This is my first post and I'm already anticipating getting flammed ![]() I have been reading for days and yes SEARCHING as the readme clearly states but frankly I can't seem to find a clear answer... infact the issue seems to be as clear as mud. Unfortunately people seem to post incomplete info and also in the wrong threads which makes the reading difficult and the moderators work hard... kudos to the moderators!!!I am not an actual "wardriver" I am a network engineer that is new to wireless but learning quickly. I am looking to test wirless design and I recently found NetStumbler and WOW what an awesome tool!!! My current laptop is a Dell Latitude D400 which consists of an Intel 2200B/G card that does seem to function but as cleary stated is not "supported". Yes I recognize that but it was actually quite helpful during some initial testing but damn I really would like to get the noise level and an accurate SNR. Yes I am getting to my point ![]() Tech question 1: If I am testing B/G networks (actually wrt54gl's) is it required that I use a B/G card or is just a B card fine for benchmarking? 2: Depending on answer to 1: I would like to purchase a card that "works" with NetStumbler and provides SNR but I am under a time contraint and I am wondering if I can buy a common brand at BestBuy or CompUSA that people have confirmed "working" with NetStumbler. From what I have read it seems clear that the only supported card is a B card with a specific chipset but I am too green to RF to fully understand if I need to be measuring B or G or both to validate my designs. I am more than happy to read anything that anyone would like to refer me to and I would greatly appreciate any assistance offered. As a final note I use XP SP2 on my D400 and I am currently experimenting with some bootable Linux version such as Knopix and Slax but I am an MCSE so yes my comfort zone is MS ![]() Thanks in advance! |

B cards will detect G networks, SNR is reported correctly ONLY with the Hermes chipset. Search on Orinoco Classic.

I would like to report that the DLink PCI card DWL-AG530 works perfectly well with Netstumbler 0.4.0
By the way, I've choosen this card because it is the most sensitive card that I'v seen so far as concern its receiving sensitivity to weak signals. I'm using it in an old 8 years old Pentium 3 system and it works perfectly well even if the card is PCI 2.2 while this old motherboard is only PCI 1.0 |

Hi.. first post! Belkin 7050 v4 usb works great with the supplied drivers, but Ive found there are more options for the device if you use the ZyDas 1211b drivers including a rfmon driver !
