At first I couldnt get my linksys wpc54g to work, even with the latest driver, but then I took the card out, installed NS, opened NS, and inserted the card. Now, it works beautifully even with my older laptop. I am finally being opened up to what I've been missing.

Compaq Armada 7770DMT with Win2k and NS .4. I have used two cards with this setup and had success with both. A Linksys WPC11 version 3 and a Belkin F5D6020 version 2. Just one observation, the Linksys picked up two AP's with moderate signal strenths and the Belkin picked up only one AP, but with a strong signal, both from my lab window.

The U.S. Robotics USR 5410 (802.11g) card using the older drivers (USR11g_4.0q_919) on a Dell Inspiron 8100 running Win2k Pro works great! Just don't try upgrading the card drivers to the latest (USR11g_v6.0b14) for 125Mb transfer speeds. The card will not be recognized by NS if you do. I'm using a raw form of MapsStumbler to convert NetStumbler summary files to waypoints on Garmins MapSource software. I don't understand why so many people dislike MapSource. Anyone care to comment? I see a couple of other people have already posted on configurations using the USR 5410, but just wanted to put in my two cents. I don't see many USR users, so I just felt compelled to "represent". *LOL* Here's hopeing everyone enjoys the stumbling, and no one breaks a leg. *L* I know, goofy.

I just picked up a Motorola WN825G, it works great with netstumbler. Theyre pretty cheap ($40, at walmart) and it has much better reception than my d-link dwl-630 card. Just a warning though, it does not have an internal antenna jack.

Topcom Skyr@cer 3154g @ Win2000/XP
The Topcom skyr@cer 3154g card has worked great for me with both 2000/XP, using the NDIS 5.1
I couldn't make it work with Win98 (i'm kind of a n00b, that might be the reason) Tested on system: IBM Thinkpad 600E (PII-366MHz) 230 Megs Ram.. Win2K/XP (obviously).. |
