I have a Cisco Aironet 350 with the newest firmware and client software running on Windows XP Pro. This is an awesome card with 100mW output and an insane RX. Just watch out for that client software. make sure it's set to "Use Other Configuration Application" under the right click menu under profiles. Otherwise NS and Cisco fight for use and it takes NS about four min. to take the card and it only keeps it for like ten seconds. But other than the week of pissed off sleepless nights trying to figure out what was going on with Netstumbler and my card....It has worked like a champ since!

Cisco Aironet 350 series
Win-Client-802.11a-b-Ins-Wizard-v13.exe: firmware 5.40.10, NDIS Driver 8.5.24, ACU 6.3.011
Win-Client-802.11a-b-Ins-Wizard-v14.exe: firmware 5.41.00, NDIS Driver 8.5.26, ACU 6.3.0xx With v14, no APs would be detected, but NS worked fine after downgrading to v13. |

This D-Link DWL-660W card works fine with NetStumbler 0.4.
Using a Compaq iPaq 3630 with version 3.0 Windows CE (a.k.a. Pocket Windows 2002). Using a PCMCIA jacket (hold and read on) with a PCMCIA -> Compact extender with the D-Link DWL-660W inserted. ( Reason for using the PCMCIA jacket is the extra battery in the back of the PCMCIA jacket. More uptime .. ). Have had some trouble with PocketWinC to the extent that this did not work at all on the same system as above. The advise of Cirond using the 'reference' driver from Intersil (a big driver by the way) did not work either. Probably a modification in the newer versions of the DWL-660W (my own judgement). |

I just tried the new version (NetStumbler 0.4) with my setup. Works great.
I have a ThinkPad 770X with Win2k and SuSE Linux 9.0 Pro. I use a D-Link DWL-G650 (108Mbps) for work and on my LAN (haven't tested it yet with NetStumbler). But For travelling, wardriving, security scanning, consulting etc, I use the AWESOME SMC2532W-B. Check it out at SMC's Website. This is, IMHO, the ultimate wardriving card. It uses a Prism 2.5 chipset, has a 200mw output power (most cards are around 30mw), and best of all, the built in antenna is removeable and in it's place are 2 MMCX connectors. I got this amazing card for only $39 at CompUSA. I then picked up the new version of the SMC model SMCHANT-4 Omni 4db antenna (See it here) which now comes with an MMCX adapter and bam, instant, cheap, killer range and connections. The antenna was $17 on sale. I have to say, if you want an awesome long range and/or wardriving setup that's cheap to boot, snag one of these cards. And get that antenna too. Even if you want to build/buy your own antenna later, you can get all the connectors, adapters, and parts you need off this one to do it for less than it will probably cost you for just the raw MMCX connector. I'm going to cut a rectangular hole in a pringle can bottom and just stick this antenna right into it to convert from omni to directional when I need it. Anyway, this setup works great with 0.4 and I'm anxious to take it for a spin in the car. heh, the antenna will wedge nice in my Mercedes moonroof. It will look like I have satellite radio or something. Later, Tachyon |
