I keep on seeing Orinoco cards that have Turbo in their name and others that don't... are they all the same... if not.. will the Turbo version work with netstumbler?? Thanks

By the looks of it, it was just a new name and had absolutely nothing to do with the performance of the card.

i think the "turbo" moniker came out when the silvers and golds appeared, since they were 11Mbps. the previous white and bronze cards only did 802.11 FH @ 2Mbps. later on, when everyone was using 802.11b, the "turbo" moniker became silly, so they got rid of it.

I have a Silver that doesn't do 11Mbps apparently. It's weird. I think it's from some European country too, since I can't read the some of the writing on the back label. It doesn't say Turbo either.

Lithuania perhaps?

Edit: Yes I forgot to mention... Did you see them bones in the corner?

Extra points for the fact that it was a one-message thread. They're easy to miss.

That's pretty neat. I have absolutely NO clue where that is! Time to dig out that atlas.

All my other WaveLAN Silvers are Turbo and have the PC24E-H-xx model (xx for country, ie FC = FCC, FR = France, etc). This "special" WaveLAN is the odd one out. I had completely forgot about it until I read this thread.

I'll try running Alchemy on it later tonight. I believe I once tried to do a Stations Firmware Update on it a year or two ago, but I remembered it hung the OS.

isn't the station f/w just for loading updating the flash etc? and i think the WSU has a copy inside it in case the card's version is too old.
let us know how it goes...i'm thinking maybe your card's hardware is the same as bronze.

Just ran Alchemy, it couldn't write the PDA No channel unlocking yet.

Now I remember why I never used this card, aside from the fact that it only does 2Mbps. I can't get the WSU to run on it! I think the firmware is ancient, but I don't have a way of checking right now. I've tried using the Proxim drivers and the Agere drivers and none of the WSUs wants to update the card. Keeps hanging the OS or at best, version 6.06 says it has an error writing. Maybe this thing doesn't have a flash chip, but a ROM?

I'll give it another shot when I grab an older laptop, going to attempt to play around with the card some more under Windows 98, maybe I'll have more luck.

I think I'll attempt to use the Intersil flash.exe tool as well. (Might as well use every hammer available )

When I said this card had ancient firmware, I really mean ancient!

orinoco_cs reports "Looks like a Lucent/Agere firmware version 1.28"
